Breanna Sheahan

Bio

Dr. Breanna Sheahan is an Assistant Professor of Equine Medicine, and her office is # D337 in the CVM main building. She can be reached at bjsheaha@ncsu.edu. Dr. Sheahan received her undergraduate and veterinary degrees from the University of California – Davis. Following graduation, she completed a one year rotating equine internship at the University of Missouri followed by a residency in equine internal medicine at the University of Illinois. After completing her residency, she completed a PhD at NC State University in the Dekaney lab where she studied the ability of intestinal stem cells to regenerate following genotoxic insult to the intestinal epithelium. In order to further her research interests in intestinal cell biology, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Duke University under Dr. Jatin Roper, a gastroenterologist. Dr. Sheahan joined the NCSU Equine medicine team as a part time clinician in 2021 and is excited to now be a full time faculty member. Her clinical interests include gastroenterology, neonatology, and cardiology, with a special focus on ultrasonography. As part of the equine medicine team, she offers basic equine cardiac evaluations. Her lab studies equine intestinal diseases, including colic, inflammatory bowel disease, gastric ulceration, and enterocolitis. Outside of work, Dr. Sheahan enjoys hiking, traveling, driving and riding horses, riding her motorcycle, and spending time with friends, family, and her partner BJ, cat (Mitty), and horse (Cali).
