Kyla is an assistant professor of Large Animal Surgery at New Bolton Center, the large animal campus of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, located in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. She received her DVM degree from the University of Guelph in 2006 and completed her large animal surgical residency at Cornell University in 2010. Following her residency, Dr. Ortved went on to obtain a PhD in equine cartilage repair at Cornell University in June 2014. She has a long-standing interest in the development, prevention and treatment of post-traumatic osteoarthritis and is excited by the translational nature of this research between veterinary and human medicine.

Renata Linardi, DVM, MS, PhD

Renata is a research specialist and lab manager in the Ortved lab. Renata received her DVM degree from Universidade Estadual Paulista-UNESP in Brazil in 2000. Following veterinary school she completed a residency in large animal anesthesiology and surgery. Renata then went on to obtain a PhD in pharmacology and molecular biology from Louisiana State University in 2010. After completion of graduate school, she came to New Bolton Center, University of Pennsylvania to complete a post doc. She joined the Ortved lab as a research specialist and lab manager in 2016. In her free time, Renata enjoys spending time with her family. |

Mana Okudaira, DVM - Musculoskeletal Research Fellow

Mana is a musculoskeletal research fellow in the Ortved Lab. She received her DVM from Cornell University in 2020. Following graduation, she ventured off to the west coast and completed a rotating internship at Pioneer Equine Hospital in California. Mana then joined the Equine Field Service at Colorado State University where she enjoyed a year of equine ambulatory work and teaching veterinary students. In 2022, she returned to the east coast and completed a surgical internship in Long Island at Cornell Ruffian Equine Specialists before joining the Ortved Lab in New Bolton Center. Mana’s interests include surgery, regenerative therapies, exercise physiology and emergency medicine. She loves to travel and hopes to one day bring advanced equine surgical care to developing nations. In her free time, Mana enjoys horseback riding, rock climbing and spending time with her dog, Nala.

Angela Gaesser, DVM, DACVS

Angela is a PhD student in the Ortved lab. She received her DVM from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. She then completed internships at Tennessee Equine Hospital, followed by an internship and large animal surgery residency at New Bolton Center. Most recently, Angela completed a research fellowship sponsored by the CTSA One Health Alliance. In her free time, Angela enjoys hiking, reading, and spending time with her husband Gavin and their dogs, Foxy and Cricket. |

Dhvani Barot, B.V.Sc & A.H - 2022-24 MARS EQUESTRIAN Veterinary Research Scholar

Dhvani is the 2022-24 MARS EQUESTRIAN Veterinary Research Scholar. She received her Bachelor of Veterinary Science from Mumbai Veterinary College, India in 2020. During the pandemic, she worked at a small animal clinic and finished an observership at the Mahalaxmi racecourse. While at New Bolton Center, her main research focuses are on the quantification of alpha-2-macroglobulin, inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines, and growth factors in equine autologous blood-based products. She enjoys baking desserts, reading, and painting in her spare time.
