Marine Corps Marathon service information, Oct. 30

Advisory Effective: 10/30/22 - 10/30/22

Metrorail will open two hours early – at 5 a.m. – for the 47th annual Marine Corps Marathon on Sunday, Oct. 30. Free shuttle buses at six Blue and Yellow line stations closed for construction will also begin operating at 5 a.m. when the system opens, with increased frequencies during peak periods pre- and post-race to accommodate the higher ridership.

The two-hour early opening and supplemental shuttle bus service is funded through an agreement with event organizers.

SERVICE INFORMATION:

Metrorail

Stations will open at 5 a.m. and will operate normal weekend frequencies:

Red Line Trains every 10 minutes.

Blue Line Trains every 15 minutes operating between Reagan National Airport and Largo/New Carrollton. Franconia-Springfield, Van Dorn St, King St – Old Town and Braddock Rd closed. Free shuttle buses provided.

Orange Line Silver Line Trains every 15 minutes.

Green Line Trains every 8 minutes.

Yellow Line No train service. Huntington, Eisenhower Ave, King St – Old Town and Braddock Rd closed. Free shuttle buses provided.

Due to major construction on the Blue and Yellow lines:

  • Franconia-Springfield, Van Dorn St., Huntington, Eisenhower Ave, King St-Old Town, Braddock Rd stations closed. Free shuttle buses will operate beginning at 5 a.m. as follows:
    • Blue Line Express: Franconia-Pentagon (5 a.m. – 9 p.m.)
      Express service between Franconia-Springfield and Crystal City every 5-7 minutes during peak periods 5 a.m. – 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; up to every 15 minutes all other times.
    • Yellow Line Express: Huntington-Pentagon (5 a.m. – 9 p.m.)
    • Express service between Huntington and Crystal City up to every 15 minutes, with additional buses available as needed. (Boards on north side) 
    • Customers using Express shuttles should transfer to Metrorail at Crystal City to continue their trip.

    • Blue Line Local (5 a.m. – midnight)
    • Local service between Franconia-Springfield, Van Dorn St, King St-Old Town, Braddock Rd, and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport stations every 10-20 minutes during all Metrorail operating hours.
    • Yellow Line Local (5 a.m. – midnight)
    • Local service between Huntington, Eisenhower Ave, King St-Old Town, Braddock Rd, and Crystal City stations every 10-15 minutes during all Metrorail operating hours. 
    • Yellow Line shuttles do not stop at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Station.
    • For customers traveling between National Airport and Greenbelt, use the Blue or Green lines instead.

TRAVEL TIPS

Sunday, Oct. 30

  • The closest Metrorail station to the start of the race is Pentagon Station on the Blue Line. Customers are advised that Pentagon Station may become exit only prior to the start of the race in the event of large crowds.
  • To avoid crowding at Pentagon Station with riders traveling to the start line, consider using Pentagon City instead.
  • Arlington Cemetery Station will be closed until approximately 8:30 a.m.
  • The closest Metrorail stations for the start of the MCM 10K on the National Mall are Archives and L'Enfant Plaza.
  • To avoid crowds and waiting in line at fare vending machines, customers are encouraged to use SmarTrip mobile pay on your iPhone, Apple Watch or Android device. Just add the farecard to your Apple Wallet or Google Wallet to instantly add money for your trip. Make sure to load enough for your roundtrip.
  • SmarTrip cards may also be purchased at fare vending machines located at station entrances or at selected retail locations.

Metrobus service

Pentagon Bus Terminal - Due to the event, all Metrobus service that normally operates to/from the Pentagon will be diverted to Pentagon City on Sunday until approximately 6 p.m. Additional staff will be on hand at Pentagon City Station to assist bus customers.

Rosslyn Bus Terminal - All Metrobus service will be relocated from the Rosslyn Bus Terminal to North Oak St between Wilson Blvd and North 18th St from 4 a.m. until approximately 6 p.m. to accommodate the MCM Finish Festival.

Due to road closures, some Metrobus routes will be detoured or turned back. Impacted routes include: 5A*, 7A, 10A, 16A, 16C, 16E, 22A, 23B, 38B, Metroway, 32, 33, 36, 42, 43, 52, 54, 70, 74, 79, P6.
*Route 5A will begin at Rosslyn until 6 p.m. with NO service between L'Enfant Plaza and Rosslyn during that time.
