Virtual Pride Series 2023

Join Wake County Public Libraries for a virtual program series about the LGBTQIA+ community and experience, both locally and historically. From books about the queer experience to the hidden history of Raleigh's LGBTQIA+ culture, and from a conversation about queerness and faith to pronoun use and the college experience, these programs aim to educate, inform, and celebrate Pride!

For more resources, please browse our informational Pride Guide. In keeping with our mission to instill the love of reading and foster the pursuit of knowledge, these resources are provided to inspire critical thinking and aid in the continuing education of our community on the subjects of identity, equality, and social justice.

Q: Who created this program series?
A: Adult services librarians with Wake County Public Libraries. Wake County is home to Raleigh, the capital city of North Carolina. Learn about Wake County Public Libraries and all we offer.

Q: Can I register for all of the programs?
A: Of course!  You must sign up individually for each program; there is no way to sign up one time, for the entire series.

Q: How do I register for a program?
A: Click the REGISTER FOR VIRTUAL PROGRAM link on each program page. Complete the simple form. You will receive an email confirmation that your registration was successful. In that email is a unique link that will allow you to enter the program on the date/time of the program.

Q: How do I attend a program?
A: All programs are virtual via Zoom. You can access Zoom on a phone, tablet, or computer. When you register, you will receive a confirmation email. Save the confirmation email you receive! The email contains a unique-to-you link that when clicked will allow you to enter the program on the date/time of the program. If you are new to Zoom and plan to attend the programs with a phone or tablet, make sure you have the Zoom app downloaded to your device before attending the program.

Q: What time should I log in?
A: We will begin letting attendees into each program 5-10 minutes prior to the program start time.

Q: How long is each program?
A: Between 60-90 minutes in length.

Q: Do I need to pay to attend?
A: No! All programs are free. Wake County Public Library programs are always free!

Q: Will the programs be recorded in case I cannot attend live?
A: No, sorry, we cannot record the programs. All programs will be live, one time.

Q: Will others see my face during a virtual program?
A: No. These programs will be held via Zoom Webinar and attendee cameras are automatically off.

Q: Will I be able to ask questions of the presenter?
A: Time-permitting, questions will be welcomed via the Chat or Q&A function in Zoom.

Q: Since you are librarians, do you have any recommendations for books related to the programs?
A: Yes! We are happy you asked! Be sure to check out the LGBTQIA+ Voices program for fiction and nonfiction book suggestions! All books titles are linked to the Wake County Public Libraries online catalog; if you are outside of Wake County, please check with your local library.
