At the age of ten Mike Mahaney became the youngest crew chief at the dirt track by supporting his dad, Jim "Workshoe" Mahaney. Although he could only run a jack - if he stood on it, Mike soon earned the respect of the other drivers and their crews and was often sought out as a resource on car set up.

It took Mike a long time to ask for his turn behind the wheel, but at the age of fifteen Mike received an opportunity to take the driver's seat in a Tobias Slingshot. He enjoyed the fun and excitement of racing but once he won a race Mike was hooked; he wanted to win again.

In 2005, his first full season in a Slingshot, Mike accumulated 24 wins and enough points to earn a track championship. He won his second track championship the following year along with the Northeast Tour.

In 2007 Mike repeated his success in the Slingshot series with another track championship and branched out into other classes to achieve a 600cc Micro Sprint track championship, three Sportsman Modified wins and Rookie of the Year at Cayuga County Fair Speedway in Weedsport, N.Y.

Mike works on and off the race track to expand his knowledge and experience. He graduated in 2009 from the State University of New York at Alfred with a degree in Motorsports Technology. While in college Mike designed and built his first modified body and built a complete 358 DIRTcar Series car including the motor. He continued his climb through the ranks and began racing the 358 small block and big block modified DIRTcar Series.

In 2013 Mike earned his first track championship in the modified division at Afton Speedway behind the wheel of the Lynch Paving No.77x while also taking fourth in points at Utica-Rome Speedway and fifth at Fonda Speedway.

2012 and 2013 were breakout years for Mike with six major event wins earning him over $37,500 and attention from media and car owners. In 2013 Mike was hired to drive for four different race teams propelling his hobby into a full time career.

2015 was a breakout year for Mike as he picked up the modified championships at both Thunder Mountain Speedway and Afton Speedway and was also the champion of the Southern Tier American Racer Cup.

2016 included wins in a SpeedSTR at Action Track USA, Brewerton Speedway in a sprint car, Afton Speedway in a small block modified and Canandaigua Speedway in a big block modified.

Along with his successful racing career, Mike has developed a very large following of fans wherever he races and is one of the classiest, well respected drivers in the business. Mike has made racing his career and plans to continue for years to come.

2017 Mike picked up his first win at Grandview Speedway in the Breitenstein Motorsports No.14 small block modified with just eleven career starts at the track. Mike won the Jack Johnson Tribute race at Fonda Speedway in the Buzz Chew Chevrolet No.88 big block modified. With just a handful of starts at Action Track USA, Mike was able to grab an exciting victory in the No.33 SpeedSTR.

Mike also ran his first 410 sprint car event with the World of Outlaws at Fulton Speedway. Despite to mechanical failure, Mike started deep in the field (23rd) and was able to drive through to finish a solid ninth-place finish.

In 2018 Mike competed in various divisions between Modifieds, Sprint cars, and Speedstrs where he collected a handful of victories between the three divisions.

In 2019 Mike and the Adirondack Auto team joined forces for their first full season together as a new team where they solely focused on modified racing in the northeast. Despite many mechanical issues in the middle of the season Mike was able to push forward and collect five wins and 50 top-10's in 93 races.

Mike picked up a victory at Five Mile Point Speedway in the Pascual No.3 then went on to win two victories at Albany-Saratoga Speedway and two victories at Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway in the Adirondack No.35.

Despite the late start to the season in 2020 due to COVID, Mike and the Adirondack Auto 35 team picked up one win at Albany-Saratoga Speedway as well as the track championship at their Friday night home track. They were able to pick up a lot of momentum and great stride as the season came to a close with several back-to-back podium finishes.
