Ciara Leydon is the Chair of the Department of Communication and Director of the Graduate Program in Speech-Language Pathology. She teaches courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the areas of voice, speech science, and swallowing. She enjoys informing her classroom and clinical teaching with her two other professional interests: research in voice disorders and clinical practice in speech, language and swallowing disorders.

Teaching Responsibilities

Dr. Leydon teaches courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the areas of voice, speech science, and swallowing. Undergraduate courses include Introduction to Communication Disorders and Speech Science. Graduate courses include Voice and Velopharyngeal Disorders and Dysphagia.

Research Interests and Grants

Dr. Leydon conducts research in the area voice, most recently exploring speech outcomes in response to common speech-language pathology interventions. Her work has been supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority (CHEFA), American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation, and private entities. This work, often conducted in collaboration with graduate students in speech-language pathology, informs her teaching and clinical practice.
