Before joining SHU, Origanti was associate professor and chair of the School of Social Sciences at Avila University in Kansas City, MO. In that role, he oversaw the criminology and justice studies and social work departments. During his tenure at Avila, he established the Saint Louis University master’s in social work partnership, chaired the rank and tenure committee and created a ten-day inter-disciplinary, human rights focused travel course to India.

Origanti most recently served as the vice chair of Council of Social Work Education’s Commission on Accreditation, the accrediting body for social work baccalaureate, master’s and professional practice doctoral programs in the United States and its territories. He also serves as a consultant for CSWE's International Social Work Degree Recognition and Evaluation Service. He has built his academic career in a variety of roles and in various committees, including serving as a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission, one of the six regional institutional accreditors in the United States and vice chair of the National Conference Planning Committee of the Association of Baccalaureate Social Work Program Directors.

Research Interests

Origanti’s research focus is on international social work education as it relates to pedagogy and practice to address issues of social justice with individuals and communities. His work explores community-based learning opportunities to develop, practice and assess the intercultural skills needed in working towards social justice on a local-global scale.
