Before joining the faculty at Sacred Heart University, Dr. Title completed a 37-year career in public education, most recently as the Superintendent of Schools for the Fairfield, CT school system (2010-2016). Dr. Title previously served as Superintendent of Schools for the Bloomfield, CT school system (2002-2010) and as Assistant Superintendent of the Waterford, CT school system (1990-2002). He began his career as a history teacher at Longmeadow (MA) High School in 1979.

Dr. Title has particular expertise in strategic planning, having facilitated such plans with numerous school systems for over 25 years. In other work for school systems, he has facilitated Instructional Rounds, a means for large-scale instructional change. In addition, he has facilitated the revision of a school system’s teacher evaluation plan and middle school schedule.

At Sacred Heart, Dr. Title has taught a multiple courses in the 092, Sixth-Year and Ed.D. programs. In 2018, he developed and gained state approval for the 093 Superintendent of Schools Certification Program and continues as its Director. In January 2019, Dean Alfano named him the first Program Director for a new Ed.D. program in Social, Emotional and Academic Learning (SEAL). The Ed.D. program admitted its first cohort of candidates in September, 2019.

In 2020, he started a Peer Coaching initiative designed to improve, university-wide, the effectiveness of classroom practice. Dr. Title is researching the impact of a Peer Coaching model to improve teaching and learning in higher education, using Sacred Heart as a case study. His other research includes identifying high-performing public school districts that may go unnoticed because they serve lower socio-economic populations.

A former high school basketball official for nearly 25 years, Dr. Title spends his non-work time with his spouse, Laurie, to whom he has been married since 1986, their children and dog. He is an ardent fan of all Boston professional sports teams and has seen over 100 Broadway shows.

Awards

For his work as assistant superintendent in Waterford, the Connecticut Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development named Dr. Title as its Educational Leader of the Year in 2001. For his work as superintendent of schools in Bloomfield, the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents (CAPSS) named Dr. Title the Connecticut Superintendent of the Year in 2010. In 2018, CAPSS conferred upon Dr. Title an Emeritus Award for his work at Sacred Heart in preparing future superintendents of schools.
