The Institute for Sustainability & Social Justice (ISSJ) is an interdisciplinary and intercollegiate center contributing to the University’s mission to embrace a vision for social justice and educate students in mind, body and spirit to make a difference in the global community.
Sustainable development and social justice are inextricably linked at the community, national and global levels and one cannot exist without the other. The institute highlights and provides support for interdisciplinary initiatives exploring the complex relationships between human and natural systems, economic structures, legal frameworks, socio-political forces and governmental policy. The ISSJ works through examination of diverse societal, economic, cultural and ecological lenses.
