Lori BigelowLori Susan Bigelow, who had served as Co-President of Bigelow Tea and was instrumental in creating some of the most successful teas in the company’s portfolio, passed peacefully in late February of 2020. Lori was raised in Westport, Connecticut, where she developed a passion for gymnastics, eventually becoming captain of her team at Keene State College. Her passion for sport, healthy eating, and exercise endured throughout her life.

The Lori S. Bigelow Scholarship was established in 2020 in order to honor Lori’s legacy. Bigelow Scholars will receive full tuition remission for their matriculation through the MS in Exercise & Sport Science program at Sacred Heart University.

Scholarship Criteria

To be eligible for the scholarship(s), candidates must:

  • Be an incoming graduate student enrolled full-time in the MS in Exercise & Sport Science program for the fall 2023 semester.

How to Apply

There is one scholarship available for the fall 2023 semester. In order to apply:

  • Candidates must first apply and be accepted to the MS in Exercise & Sport Science program (contact Graduate Admissions at gradstudies@sacredheart.edu  for assistance). It is strongly recommended that candidates apply to the program prior to March 1, 2023 if they intend to apply for this scholarship.
  • Accepted students must submit a resume (including undergraduate cumulative GPA) and an essay response to the following:
Strength and conditioning (S&C) coaching programs often take a myopic view of human performance. This view typically champions physical efforts but minimizes the importance of nutritional and mental aspects of health and performance. In a 750-1000 word response, candidates are asked to answer the following two questions: (1) Why should S&C programs take a holistic approach in regards to the enhancement of health and performance? (2) In what ways could modern collegiate or professional S&C programs expand their approach to training to foster this holistic approach? Feel free to include peer-reviewed evidence and/or personal anecdotes from your own experiences with clients, athletes, or peers in order to support your view.
  • All materials must be submitted in PDF form to Christopher Taber, Director of the MS in Exercise & Sport Science program, at taberc@sacredheart.edu prior to April 15, 2023.

All candidates will be notified by May 30, 2023 as to the status of their application.
