As associate dean, Donna Bowers is responsible for faculty development and curriculum initiatives within the College of Health Professions.

Bowers joined Sacred Heart University in 1997 after 13 years as a pediatric physical therapist. She currently continues her pediatric practice. She is a fellow of the APTA Education Leadership Institute. She previously served on the Pediatric Specialty Council of the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties and has served as a member of the Specialization Academy of Content Experts in the area of pediatrics.

Her teaching responsibilities include courses that touch on neurological evaluation and treatment, pediatrics, professional development of students, health-care systems, health policy, contemporary practice management and community-based wellness practices.

Additionally, Bowers serves as the University liaison to the RISE Transition Program, providing oversight of the SHU buddy program for fitness and social activities for young adults with neurodiversity. She also provides developmental screening and consultation to Mercy Learning Center’s daycare. She serves as a board member of the Cooperative Educational Services (CES) Foundation which supports teacher initiatives and development within the CES network.

Research INterests

Bower’s research focuses on pediatric physical therapy as it relates to education, fitness and health-care services. Additional research interests include pedagogy for professional development of physical therapy students.
