Running For Wreaths- presented by Wreaths Across America

Sat September 11 - Sat September 25 ANYWHERE IN THE USA, ME 12345 US RaceJoy Ready
Remember Honor Teach

Description

While coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies each December on National Wreaths Across America Day is a big part of what we do, our mission to Remember, Honor and Teach is carried out throughout the year. From our Remembrance Tree program to the Wreaths Across America Museum in Maine, there are many different ways in which you can get involved!

In 2021, Wreaths Across America is launching the Running For Wreaths Virtual Races, consisting of two events participants can join anywhere in the United States!

Wreaths Across America is asking Americans to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks by standing outside and waving an American flag for one minute at 8:46am, 9:03am, 9:37am, and 10:03am, marking the times that the planes crashed into the towers, Pentagon, and into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The tradition was started by "The Freeport Flag Ladies" (Elaine Greene, Joann Miller and Carmen Foote) of Freeport, Maine, who proudly waved Old Glory every Tuesday morning for 18 years. They retired, and subsequently, Wreaths Across America has picked up where they left off,  setting up along US Route 1 in Jonesboro, Maine, on land donated by the organization’s founder, Morrill Worcester, leading to the new Acadia National Cemetery.

Each individual race registration sponsors a fresh balsam veteran’s wreath that will be placed on the headstone of an American hero on December 18, 2021, as part of National Wreaths Across America Day.  During check out, registrants can designate the Sponsorship Group or participating Wreaths Across America Location they want their sponsored wreath allocated to.  Registrants will receive personalized racing bibs, commemorative finisher medallions, and an event shirt. Additionally, individual virtual results will be submitted to show up in the official results!

Participants registered after August 20th may not be guaranteed their desired shirt size.

WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA

REMEMBER
our fallen U.S. veterans.
HONOR
those who serve.
TEACH
your children the value of freedom.

While we have Veterans Day in the fall and Memorial Day in the spring, our servicemen and women sacrifice their time and safety every single day of the year, to preserve our freedoms. And in many homes across the U.S., every day there is an empty seat for one who is serving, or one who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. That is why our mission to Remember, Honor and Teach lasts all year long, far beyond the single day in December when we coordinate wreath-laying ceremonies. All throughout the year, Wreaths Across America works in a number of ways to show our veterans and their families that we will not forget—we will never forget.
