Hurricane Ida Response

October 1, 2021–Operation USA is continuing to assess opportunities to provide aid to partners in Louisiana and along the Gulf Coast. Our ability to deliver supplies and make grants is dependent on the generosity of our donors. Please consider a gift today at give.opusa.org.

August 30, 2021–Hurricane Ida made landfall in Louisiana yesterday as one of the most powerful storms to ever hit the US. Survivors are now in need of critical aid. OpUSA is working diligently to raise funds for cash grants to community-based partners and procure bulk supply donations to equip partners with material aid.

The massive storm knocked out power across New Orleans, leaving those who were unable to evacuate without refrigeration or air conditioning in extreme heat and slowing the city’s storm pump system at a critical time as Ida caused widespread flooding. Many businesses, homes and other structures suffered severe damage. Challenges at hospitals, which were already strained by the ongoing pandemic, were exacerbated by Ida. Millions of people were impacted by the storm, from which recovery will likely take years.

OpUSA is in touch with partners on the ground and is planning to deploy material aid and make cash grants as much as donations allow. We can’t do this vital relief work without the support of our donors. Please give now at give.opusa.org.

August 28, 2021–OpUSA is monitoring Hurricane Ida as it approaches the Gulf Coast and is preparing to deliver aid in the storm’s aftermath via material aid and cash grants. Your donations make this relief work possible. Please donate now at give.opusa.org.

Experts predict Hurricane Ida will have devastating impact on Louisiana and New Orleans in particular, where the COVID-19 pandemic continues to ravage communities which remain affected by 2005’s Hurricane Katrina–the storm that devastated Louisiana 16 years ago this week. OpUSA has worked in New Orleans for more than fifteen years, and will call on existing partnerships to expedite the delivery of aid after Ida.
