Whitman Peterson is a real estate private equity company making and actively managing opportunistic real estate investments on behalf of institutional investors. We are passionately focused on achieving top-tier returns, while maintaining a wide margin of safety against under-performance or loss.

• We strive to do this by (1) identifying market opportunities with very strong demand/supply fundamentals, (2) ensuring we invest at a very attractive basis, (3) investing at the most compelling point in the value-chain, (4) establishing truly propriety partnerships with best-in-class real estate operating companies with whom we can source, finance, and execute on programmatic property-level (and, where attractive, operating company) investments, and (5) creating GP co-invest-capital economic structures, where we invest all (or a portion) of our funds’ capital alongside the balance-sheet capital of the operating partners and their teams.

• Since our founding in late 2010, we have raised 5 institutional funds and, through our GP-aligned platform partnerships, have invested in the acquisition or development of more than 150 properties, in transactions with an aggregate capitalization of more than $20 billion. We have investments across most major markets in the U.S. and also in the U.K. and Latin America.

• Our key strategies currently include (but are not limited to) multifamily rental housing (conventional apartments, active adult, student, short-term rentals), industrial / logistics, select-service lodging, outdoor hospitality / experiential travel, and seniors housing (independent living, assisted living, memory care).

The firm was founded by Bob Whitman, Wes Whitman, and Joel Peterson in October 2010. Since that time, we have raised 5 investment vehicles, including 4 opportunity funds and one core-plus side-car fund (made up of existing opportunity-fund LPs). Our principals have deep experience starting, building, financing, scaling, and managing significant investment and operating businesses. In addition, we have been fortunate to attract a diverse and truly outstanding team of great human beings from all over the world. These people each have an opportunity to make big contributions to a close-knit team.

Our team members and their families are from Australia, Indonesia, Dubai, China, Brazil, Italy, Canada, Mexico, Korea, the Philippines and across the United States. They have come with great experience from prominent investment and other institutions, such as Morgan Stanley, Marriott International, the Stanford Endowment, Barings, EY, Wells Fargo, Oaktree, Fortress, JP Morgan, THQ, Duff & Phelps, PWC, KPMG, and MacQuarie — and from top educational institutions, such as UCLA, USC, UCSB, Brigham Young University, University of Utah, University of Washington, Michigan State, Cal State Northridge, Texas A&M, University of Texas, TCU, University of Sydney (AU), Cornell, University of Pennsylvania (Wharton), and Harvard.
