Former Rebel standout golfer Chris Malloy enters his tenth season as the Ole Miss men's golf head coach.

Malloy, the 2013 BIG EAST Coach of the Year, returned to Oxford after four years as the head coach at the University of South Florida. As a player for the Rebels, he helped lead Ole Miss to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances in 1999 and 2000. Now, Malloy has guided his alma mater back to national prominence, including six straight NCAA Regional appearances – the longest streak in program history.

Through nine seasons as head coach, Malloy has led Ole Miss to eight tournament titles as a team to go along with 21 wins by individual Rebels. Under Malloy’s tutelage, Braden Thornberry became the first national champion in Ole Miss Golf history and earned the 2017 Fred Haskins Award (the nation’s most outstanding collegiate golfer).

Malloy has coached a pair of All-Americans, three First Team All-SEC, and four SEC All-Freshman golfers during his time in Oxford. As a team during Malloy's nine seasons in charge, the Rebels have recorded nine of the top ten rounds in school history. That includes the top-two program-best scores of 268 at the 2022 SEC Match Play Championship and a 269 that helped Ole Miss capture the 2018 Hootie at Bulls Bay. Three of the top 10 rounds occurred during the 2022-23 season to help the Rebels return to postseason play for their sixth consecutive championship season.

In Malloy’s ninth season as head coach, the Rebel alum helped his team write their names in the history books as they broke the program record for the lowest total for a single round at the 2022 SEC Match Play Championship with a 268 score. Ole Miss finished in the top 10 in all 12 tournaments, including six finishes in the top five, during its 2022-23 campaign with the help of a program-best 22 rounds under par and 25 rounds par or better on the season. In all 12 tournaments, a Rebel finished in the top-15 under Malloy’s leadership. Throughout the season, four different Rebels earned SEC Weekly honors with Brett Schell, Hugo Townsend and Sarut Vongchaisit all receiving SEC Golfer of the Week accolades and Cameron Tankersley being named SEC Freshman of the Week twice in his rookie season. Tankersley would go on to earn a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team. During the SEC Championships, Malloy directed the Rebels to their best finish under his guidance, finishing in sixth place in stroke play and advancing to the match play portion for the first time since 2017. With their in-season success, the Rebels went on to punch their sixth straight ticket to the postseason, competing at the 2023 NCAA Norman Regional.

Malloy was also able to help lead the Rebels in 2022 to tying the program's best tournament score of 828 at the Puerto Rico Intercollegiate, while also leading Ole Miss to the team's first appearance in the NCAA Championships since 2017, as well as the team's second-best overall finish in program history after making the day three cut and finishing 14th in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The 2021-22 campaign was one of epic proportions for the Malloy-led Rebels, as the team blazed its way towards earning its best NCAA Championship finish since 1985. Senior Jackson Suber dominated his fourth and final year playing for Malloy, earning PING Second Team All-America and Golfweek Third Team All-America honors, while also taking home three tournament victories during his final season with the Rebels. Suber's season would end having shot a stroke average of 69.77, ranking second in program history, while also becoming the first Rebel to ever claim a medalist finish at NCAA Regionals, with Suber winning the NCAA Norman Regional with his three-day score of 205 (70-68-67) helping him sit atop the individual leaderboard.

Under Malloy’s guidance, Jackson Suber had a breakout 2020-21 campaign that ended in PING All-American Honorable Mention and First Team All-SEC honors. The Tampa, Florida, native was a two-time medalist by capturing the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate and the LSU Invitational, while also setting an Old Waverly Collegiate Championship record with a career-low 63 for the second-lowest round in Ole Miss history. Off the course, the 2020-21 Rebels excelled in the classroom. Ole Miss was named a GCAA All-Academic Team, and nine Rebels earned academic honors from the SEC to continue their success on and off the course under Malloy’s leadership.

The 2019-20 season was cut short due to COVID-19, but prior to the cancellation in the spring, the Rebels recorded a trio of top-three finishes during the fall. Malloy guided a young squad as three sophomores and a freshman competed in all eight tournaments.

In 2018-19, Malloy led the Rebels to their third straight NCAA Regional appearance. Ole Miss produced a season-best runner-up finish at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship as part of five top-five performances throughout the season. He coached some talented Rebels, including All-American Intercollegiate medalist Cecil Wegener, a sophomore. Suber and Sarut Vongchaisit combined to win four SEC Freshman of the Week honors, collecting two apiece. Malloy guided Suber to a strong rookie campaign that ended with SEC All-Freshman accolades. To conclude the season, the Rebels earned a bid to their fourth regional appearance in five years, playing out west in the Stanford Regional.

During the 2017-18 campaign, Malloy guided the Rebels to more record-breaking performances. Ole Miss captured the Hootie at Bulls Bay thanks to a school record 269 (-19) in the final round, breaking the old mark of 272 that dated back to 2001. Thornberry collected four individual medalist honors to set the new record for career victories (11), while advancing to the NCAA Championships for the second straight season. Thornberry also became the third two-time All-American and the first Ben Hogan Award finalist in school history. Behind Malloy’s tutelage, the Rebels earned five SEC weekly honors to top the conference; Thornberry captured SEC Golfer of the Week accolades twice, while newcomer Wegener was the three-time SEC Freshman of the Week. In his first SEC Championship, Wegener placed runner-up in stroke play to lead the Rebels to a spot in the match play portion of the competition. All in all, Ole Miss finished in the top three in nearly half of the tournaments (5 of 12) to hold a national ranking throughout the year. To conclude the season, the Rebels made their third NCAA Regional appearance in four seasons, all under Malloy.

Malloy coached Ole Miss to four tournament victories during the 2016-17 season as the Rebels earned a berth to a NCAA Regional for the second time in three years. The team won the Franklin American Mortgage Company Intercollegiate at the Grove (Nashville, Tennessee), the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic (Atlanta, Georgia) and the Princeville Warrior Invitational (Kauai, Hawaii) during the fall before claiming the Lamkin San Diego Classic (San Diego, California) in the spring. In two of those wins, Ole Miss shot 831 as a team for the second-best tournament score (54 holes) in school history. Following a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Regional in Austin, Texas, the Rebels advanced to the NCAA National Championship for the first time in 16 seasons. There, Thornberry used an 11-under 277 over four rounds to capture the individual national title.

In year two, Malloy led the Rebels to their first tournament title since 2012 at the FAU Slomin Autism Invite. Ole Miss posted a team score of 11-under 841, its lowest total since posting a team score of 845 at the 2012 Sam Hall Intercollegiate, while Thornberry captured his first career title. Malloy also helped the Rebels post a second-place finish at the Old Waverley Collegiate Championship, where Thornberry claimed his second title of the season. Senior Forrest Gamble was honored off the course, as he was named the SEC's 2016 H. Boyd McWhorter Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and earned second team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors for the second-consecutive season.

In his first season back in Oxford in 2014-15, Malloy guided the Rebels to their first NCAA appearance since 2011 with a trip to the NCAA Regional in Rancho Santa Fe, California. Ole Miss finished 12th in the regional, while senior golfer Blake Morris finished in a tie for seventh as an individual. Malloy also helped the Rebels post a ninth-place team finish at the SEC Championships, Ole Miss’ best finish in the conference championships since 2012. In the classroom, Gamble earned SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors and was named second team CoSIDA Academic All-American.

Closing out his time in the Sunshine State, USF advanced to its second straight NCAA Regional under Malloy and just the third in school history after a fourth-place finish at the American Athletic Conference Championships. The Bulls finished the season ranked No. 33 in the nation by Golfweek, while sophomore Chase Koepka earned Ping All-Region honors.

In 2013, Malloy guided a young group of Bulls to the school's first-ever BIG EAST tournament championship, earning BIG EAST Coach of the Year honors. USF advanced to the NCAA Tallahassee Regional and came within one stroke of a berth to the NCAA Championship rounds, falling to Oklahoma in a playoff.

In his first season in Tampa, the Bulls equaled their best-ever finish at the BIG EAST Championships with a tie for fourth place, earned four top-six tournament finishes and improved their stroke average from 308.3 in four fall tournaments to 298.5 in five spring events.

In year two, Malloy helped USF to the nation's largest gain in the national rankings, leading the Bulls to be named Golfweek Magazine's Fastest Rising Program. South Florida posted seven top-10 finishes, including three in the top five.

Prior to arriving at USF, Malloy spent four seasons as an assistant at Florida State where he played a significant role in the rise of the FSU men's program. The Seminoles won their first-ever ACC golf championship in 2008, and, after leading at the end of the first round, finished third in the NCAA Championships in 2010, the best finish in program history. The Seminoles were ranked in the nation's top 15 during the first two years of his coaching career, and Florida State's team stroke average dropped to a 15-year low 72.77 in 2008. While at FSU, Malloy mentored multiple majors winner Brooks Koepka.

At FSU, he was the designated on-course coach for the Seminoles numerous times during the 2007-10 seasons, including during the third round of the 2007 NCAA Championship finals as Florida State won a three-team playoff and advanced to the top 15 in the standings, moving on to the final round.

In 2010, the `Noles defeated seven teams ranked ahead of them in the national rankings to win the Bryan Park Collegiate team championship under Malloy's watch. The following week, FSU won the Pinehurst Challenge for its second consecutive team win, a feat that had not been accomplished at FSU in almost 30 years.

Malloy was named the interim assistant coach of the women's program in the spring of 2010 and presided over an outstanding season for that program that included a 10th-place finish at the NCAA Championships.

Both the men's and women's programs were also recognized by the NCAA with a perfect APR (Academic Progress Rate) score for the period of 2006-2009.

Malloy was selected as one of five finalists for the 2010 Jan Strickland Award presented by TaylorMade-Adidas Golf as the National Men's Assistant Golf Coach of the Year. The Strickland Award is presented to the NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA or NJCAA assistant coach that has excelled in working with their student-athletes both on the course and in the classroom.

In his career as an assistant, Malloy produced four All-Americans, four All-ACC selections and one ACC individual champion, including the 2010 ACC Player of the Year and multiple majors winner, Brooks Koepka.

Malloy was a standout golfer at Ole Miss from 1999-2000, leading the Rebels to a 24th-place finish at the NCAA Championships in 1999 and an 11th-place finish at the NCAA East Regional in 2000.

A two-year letterman and team captain for Ole Miss, Malloy earned his bachelor's degree in hotel and restaurant management in 2001 and was named to the UMAA Academic Honor Roll during his time as a Rebel.

He married the former Danielle Bartlett in June 2008 and they have a daughter, Kaylee, and a son, Cash.
