Following an outstanding playing career and a highly-successful eight-year tenure as an assistant and associate head coach to Ole Miss men's tennis hall of fame coach Billy Chadwick, Toby Hansson took over as the seventh head coach in program history in 2015. He is currently in his 10th season as head coach and 18th overall with the program.

While the leader of the program changed, the tradition of excellence on and off the court has continued. 

In his ninth season at the helm in 2022-23, the Rebels continued their remarkable success, with Ole Miss reaching its 29^th consecutive NCAA Team Championships. The Rebels advanced to the NCAA Charlottesville Regional where they swept VCU, 4-0, to start before falling to the eventual National Champion, the Virginia Cavaliers. Under his guidance, the Rebels saw an 18-10 overall record which is the most wins for the men’s team since the 2014-15 campaign. Ole Miss was also 6-6 in SEC play and defeated nine ranked opponents including a monumental 4-3 victory over No. 21 Texas A&M. In 2022-23 the Rebels had numerous individual accolades to add on to the successful season. Nikola Slavic and John Hallquist Lithén came away with Second Team All-SEC honors while Isac Stromberg was tabbed the SEC Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week on March 1^st. In the fall, Lithén and Simon Junk would finish as the doubles runner-up at the ITA Southern Regional which automatically earned them bids into the ITA National Fall Championships. Ole Miss also accumulated multiple academic awards including ITA All-Academic Team honors for the 16^th consecutive year, four ITA Scholar-Athletes, and a CSC Third-Team Academic All-American in Lukas Engelhardt.

The Rebels reached their 27th consecutive NCAA Team Championships in 2021 and 29th NCAA appearance in program history. The Rebels reached the Sweet 16 for the 18th time in program history. Ole Miss received the No. 15 overall seed in the field and hosted regionals, sweeping both Belmont and Tulane in the first and second rounds. The Rebels concluded the 2021 season with a 13-11 overall record and were 7-5 in SEC play, earning their first winning record in-conference since 2015 . Ole Miss earned eight ranked wins including three versus top-12 opponents. The Rebels placed four student-athletes on the All-SEC lists, Finn Reynolds and Tim Sandkaulen All-SEC First Team, Nikola Slavic All-SEC Second Team and John Hallquist Lithén All-Freshman Team. Reynolds, Sandkaulen and Slavic earned at-large bids to the NCAA Singles Championships. No. 1 ranked Reynolds and Sandkaulen received the top overall seed in the NCAA Doubles Championships and reached the Round of 16. Reynolds and Sandkaulen finished the year ranked No. 1 in the final Oracle/ITA Poll and received ITA All-American recognition. Reynolds was named an All-American in singles too for finishing the season ranking in the Oracle/ITA top 20 and earning a top-16 seed in the NCAA Singles Championships. The Rebels dominated the ITA South Region in 2021, placing No. 1 in the regional rankings. Hansson was voted the Wilson ITA Southern Region Coach of the Year earning his first individual head coaching award at Ole Miss.

In 2020 Hansson led Ole Miss to a 10-4 overall record (1-2 SEC). The 2020 season was stopped early due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the shortened season the Rebels defeated four ranked opponents (No. 12 Illinois, No. 20 Oklahoma State, No. 28 Princeton, and No. 48 Alabama). Finn Reynolds and Tim Sandkaulen were recognized as ITA All-Americans in doubles. The pairing ranked No. 17 in the final ITA rankings, compiled a 7-2 overall record, and also defeated the No. 1 duo in the nation (and three other top 30 opponents). The Rebels peaked in the rankings at No. 11 in the nation on March 3rd. Academically, Ole Miss placed a program record seven rebels on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar Athlete list.

Hansson led the Rebels to their 26th consecutive NCAA Tournament in 2019, the fifth longest streak in the nation. During the regular season, Hansson's Rebels registered four Top 25 wins, including knocking off Alabama twice and reaching the finals of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic. Junior stalwart Tim Sandkaulen qualified for the Singles Championship in addition to claiming All-SEC honors and being named to the SEC Community Service Team. The squad earned their third straight Chancellor's Cup with a 3.22 GPA. 

In 2018, the Rebels faced adversity dealing with injuries, but overcame and upset No. 4 Stanford to advance to the NCAA Sweet 16, capitalizing on a thrilling upset from first-semester freshman Finn Reynolds for the clinch. Individually, senior Gustav Hansson, and sophomore Tim Sandkaulen qualified for the NCAA Singles Championship, while Sandkaulen also qualified in with doubles legend Fabian Fallert. Hansson and Sandkaulen were both chosen as All-SEC selections, and the squad took home their second consecutive Chancellor's Cup, given to the highest GPA for a men's and women's team at Ole MIss. 

Hansson coached the Rebels to their 24th straight NCAA appearance in 2017. The team advanced to the second round for the 24th year in a row. Individually, Gustav Hansson earned All-SEC first team honors and Fabian Fallert made the second team after posting the second best SEC record (10-1) in the league. Hansson became the 12th player in program history to be named to the All-SEC team three years. In addition to Hansson competing in the NCAA Singles Championship, Fallert teamed up with Grey Hamilton to earn a berth in the doubles field. Off the court, the Rebels posted the highest team GPA (3.47) of all men's varsity sports at Ole Miss and seven of eight team members made the SEC Academic Honor Roll.   

In 2016, the Rebels earned their 23rd NCAA appearance and advanced to the NCAA second round. Individually, Gustav Hansson became the 29th All-American in program history with an outstanding season capped by an appearance in the NCAA singles round of 16. With Hansson’s honor, the Rebels are tied for second with the most All-America selections (21) in the last decade. Hansson also earned All-SEC first team honors, while Stefan Lindmark made the second team. In addition, Hansson was named the ITA Southern Region Player to Watch. Off the court, Hansson, Zvonimir Babic and Robert Mounger were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, with Hansson being one of just eight players to earn All-America and ITA Scholar-Athlete honors.

The Toby Hansson era got off to a solid start in 2015 with the Rebels earning a final ranking of No. 17 in the nation and finishing in the top four of the SEC for the 17th time. Nik Scholtz became the first four-time All-American and the first four-time All-SEC First Team honoree in program history. Stefan Lindmark and Gustav Hansson also earned All-SEC honors. Off the court, the team received the ITA All-Academic Team Award for the fifth consecutive year.

During his eight years alongside Chadwick, Hansson helped the Rebels maintain their tradition of excellence on and off the court and brought in top-notch talent to the program.

"It was a privilege to work with such a terrific coach, mentor and individual for eight years," Hansson said. "Coach Chadwick's three-decade record reflects his expertise as a coach, but he was much more than that to our team. Coach took a personal interest in each and every player in his program, and the outcome was a team that felt more like a family. It was an honor to work alongside him, and I feel very fortunate to have learned from the best in the sport.

In Hansson's eight seasons with the program as an assistant and associate head coach, the Rebels finished among the nation's top 10 four times and the top 15 five times. During that span, the Rebels produced the most All-Americans in the country with 11, including the most in the country in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2012.

Hansson played a major role in recruiting as an assistant, including landing 2014 SEC Player of the Year Nik Scholtz, who became the fourth Rebel to earn the honor and the first to be named SEC Freshman and Player of the Year during his career.

Scholtz helped lead the team to their 21st consecutive NCAA appearance in 2014 as the Rebels advanced to the regional final. He reached the round of 16 at the NCAA Singles Championship and ended the year as the highest ranked singles player in the SEC at No. 14. Scholtz became the third Rebel ever to post a final national ranking in the top 20 three straight years. In addition to the on-court success, senior Johan Backstrom earned Capital One Academic All-America honors, making Ole Miss the only Division I school in the nation to boast an All-American and an Academic All-American in men's tennis. 

Ole Miss returned to the top 10 in 2013 and made its 20th consecutive NCAA appearance, hosting the first and second rounds for the 11th time. Individual achievements included two-time All-Americans Nik Scholtz and Jonas Lutjen becoming the seventh Rebel duo to reach the NCAA Final Four in doubles. Ole Miss was one of just two schools to have multiple All-Americans in both singles and doubles. Scholtz and Lutjen were two of just six players to achieve a final top 20 ranking in singles and a top 10 ranking in doubles.

In 2012, Hansson helped coach the Rebels to their 19th straight NCAA appearance and the Sweet Sixteen for the 16th time. Nik Scholtz earned SEC Freshman of the Year honors and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals in singles, while Marcel Thiemann and Chris Thiemann reached the Final Four in doubles. All three were joined on the All-America team by Jonas Lutjen, as the Rebels led the nation with four All-Americans.

In 2011, Hansson helped the Rebels earn their 18th NCAA appearance. Marcel Thiemann advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals for the second straight year and teamed with his brother, Chris, to end the year ranked No. 11 in doubles.

Hansson helped coach Ole Miss to its ninth consecutive SEC West title and 17th NCAA appearance in 2010. Marcel Thiemann advanced to the NCAA singles quarterfinals and became the 25th All-American in the history of the program. Hansson coached Marcel and his brother, Chris, to a top 10 national doubles ranking and a 10-1 record in the SEC at No. 1. For his achievements, Hansson was honored as the ITA Southern Region Assistant Coach of the Year.

In 2009, Hansson helped direct the Rebels to the SEC regular season championship, their second consecutive SEC Tournament Championship and their eighth straight SEC West title. The Rebels ended the year ranked No. 4 in the nation. A finalist for the ITA Southeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year, Hansson coached NCAA Singles Champion current assistant coach Devin Britton, and Jonas Berg and Bram ten Berge, who spent 14 weeks at No. 1 in the nation.

In his second season (2008), Hansson helped guide the Rebels to the SEC West title, the SEC Tournament Championship, the NCAA Elite Eight and a final national ranking of No. 6. Hansson helped coach four Rebels to All-America honors and five players to All-SEC honors. He coached Erling Tveit and Jonas Berg, who advanced to the NCAA Doubles Championship Final as well as Semifinalists Bram ten Berge and Matthias Wellermann.

In his first season with the Rebels (2007), Hansson helped guide the team to the SEC West title, the NCAA Sweet Sixteen and a final national ranking of No. 7. He helped coach three players to All-America honors and four to All-SEC accolades.

Hansson, a native of Bjärred, Sweden, was an assistant coach at Texas Tech in 2004-05, where he helped lead the Red Raiders to the NCAA Final 16 and their best season ever. The team finished with a 25-4 record, and was ranked as high as No. 9 in the country at one point during the year.

Prior to his stint at Texas Tech, Hansson played professionally on the ATP Tour in Europe, North and Central America and Asia.

One of the top collegiate players during his career at SMU, Hansson earned All-America honors in singles and doubles. As captain of the team in 2000, he was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year and first team all-conference for both singles and doubles.

During his career, Hansson was ranked as high as No. 2 in the country in doubles and No. 13 in singles for the Mustangs. He led the Mustangs to two WAC championships, three consecutive NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances and two top-15 national finishes.

Hansson graduated from SMU in 2000 with a B.A. in International Studies. He received his masters in International Studies from Uppsala University in Uppsala, Sweden, in June of 2006.
