The Purdue University Board of Trustees today (Aug. 5) approved 2023 health plans, which will have no employee premium increase for the fourth straight year. Additionally, in appreciation for their actions to establish Purdue as a leader in delivering high-quality benefits with innovative population health solutions at the lowest possible costs, all employees enrolled in a Purdue medical plan will receive a cash payment later this year equal to two months of the average employee premium – an estimated cost of $2.4 million.

Fifty years ago, Helen Bass Williams, the first African American professor at Purdue University, played a leading role in establishing the Learning Center, now the Academic Success Center, on the West Lafayette campus. Today (Aug. 5), Purdue’s Board of Trustees approved changing the name of that facility to the Helen Bass Williams Academic Success Center.

Trustees also approved two repair and rehabilitation projects – Vawter Hall electrical enhancements and replacements and northwest chiller plant system improvements.

Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb has announced the appointment of a new Purdue University trustee and the reappointment of two current trustees. Shawn A. Taylor was appointed to serve a three-year term, replacing Don Thompson, who has stepped down after 13 years on the board. Lawrence (Sonny) Beck and Malcolm DeKryger were reappointed to serve three-year terms.

Ron Elsenbaumer, chancellor of Purdue University Fort Wayne, today (Aug. 5) updated the Board of Trustees on PFW's strategic plan for 2020-25 and its four pillars: Champion Student Success; Embrace Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Enhance Quality of Place; and Promote Community Engagement. He said that the PFW student profile has swung from 75% part-time in 2010 to 82% full-time in 2021, and that 91% of graduates are employed in the state of Indiana. Elsenbaumer also highlighted the forthcoming construction of a new music building and the need for more student housing.

At the Purdue Global Board of Trustees meeting today (Aug. 5), Chancellor Frank Dooley highlighted important investments the university is making for fiscal year 2023, including a deeper commitment to student success; greater alignment with Purdue West Lafayette; partnerships with Guild, Ivy Tech and Google; and identifying and using transformative learning technologies (classroom of the future). In addition, trustees approved increasing the size of the Purdue Global board to seven members along with the ratification of vice presidents and academic officers.
