Dear <<First Name>>
Welcome to your March newsletter.

This month marks a year since lockdown began, and whilst we have faced unprecedented challenges, we are also celebrating how far we have come as an organisation,  the impact the team has made, and our ability to adapt and continue to support those who served throughout the pandemic.

Take a look at a few of our highlights:
Our Impact in 2020

2020 posed unprecedented challenges for charities across the board. On 23rd March 2020, the country went into national lockdown. WWTW swiftly moved all service delivery online and worked to become part of the solution to COVID-19. We adapted our services, moved staff to remote working and did not miss a beat in ensuring we continued to support those who served.

‘Client First’ remains WWTW’s principal value, and throughout lockdown, the Operations team made over 21,000 Covid-19 welfare calls to our service users, maintaining relationships, reducing feelings of stress and isolation and providing practical wellbeing and mental health support. Thanks to the ability of the charity to adapt, and the dedication of the WWTW staff, 2020 was a year of growth for the organisation.

Helen's Story - Employment Programme

In March we celebrated International Women's Day and highlighted some of the incredible female beneficiaries that WWTW support.

Helen served for 4 years as a Medic in the Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps (QARANC) and reached out to WWTW for employment support in 2011 when she returned to England after 5 years of living abroad.

WWTW Employment Advisor, Alex, helped Helen access her Return to Practice (RTP) Course so she could resume nursing, and as of Autumn 2020, Helen has been helping with the rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Managing the Easing of Lockdown

WWTW Clinical Lead, Carolyn Brown, has put together her top tips on managing the easing of lockdown restrictions.

Everyone is unique and we have all been affected by COVID in different ways. For some, coming out of lockdown may be overwhelming. It could take time to adjust to being able to move about more freely with fewer restrictions in place.

The first lockdown in March 2020 was a new experience for everyone. Some may feel excited at the prospect of restrictions easing in the coming day, weeks, and months, whilst others may struggle with the adjustment to the new 'normal'. We are here to support those who served and their families. Read on to find out some top tips that may help you.

Walking With The Wounded Support New NHS Veteran Mental Health and Wellbeing Pathfinder

WWTW is proud to support NHS England's OP-COURAGE pathfinder.

Over the last three years, NHS England and NHS Improvement have launched the Veterans’ Mental Health Transition, Intervention and Liaison Service (TILS), the Veterans’ Mental Health Complex Treatment Service (CTS), and more recently the Veterans’ Mental Health High Intensity Service (HIS).  Together these form a complete mental health care pathway for ex-military.

Informed by feedback from veterans and their families, all NHS specialist veterans mental health services will now come under one new name: OP-COURAGE: The Veterans Mental Health and Wellbeing Service.

In Conversation with Walk of Oman Support Team Member, Ash Winter

In just 7 months' time, WWTW will be taking a team of 6 serving and ex-military servicemen out to Oman to embark on the trip of a lifetime as they trek 400km on foot across Omani desert.

In this new series, we're introducing you to the team heading out to Oman. We sat down with Ashley, who originally joined the Walk of Oman team in July, but has since stepped back due to injury, and instead has become a member of the support team.

We’ve seen a surge in interest for our Cumbrian Challenge event (now in September), 1000 Mile March, and Community Challenges since the Prime Minister unveiled the roadmap for the end of lockdown.

Next month we’ll also reveal a new cycling event (Lap London), a new business event to bring your teams together (Call to Arms Business Challenge), and some of our latest corporate partners. If you want to know more sooner email viveca@wwtw.org.uk or keep an eye on our events page.

Leaving a gift in your Will to Walking With The Wounded will create a legacy that will last for years to come. It will make sure we can continue to give ex-military and their families the tools to rebuild and transform their lives.

We are currently offering a free online Will writing service. You do not have to leave a gift to charity but we hope you will consider us if you do.
