Review

In America Fights Back, through vivid real-life stories of citizens forced to face the reality of violence, Gottlieb and Workman provide an accounting of America s crime problem largely ignored by mainstream media. --Wayne LaPierre, Executive Vice President, National Rifle Association of America

Americans love books in which the good guys win. Gottlieb and Workman are adding to that proud tradition with America Fights Back by documenting case after case in which gun-owning citizens who refuse to wear the label victim remain the winners. --Jill J.R. Labbe, Deputy Editorial Page Editor, Fort Worth Star-Telegram

During my years in the U.S. House of Representatives serving on the Judiciary Committee, I tired of listening to the arguments of one gun-control advocate after another endlessly repeat the same tired, baseless arguments in support of their efforts to disarm law-abiding American citizens. Now, in America Fights Back Armed Self Defense in a Violent Age, we have a well-written defense of the Bill of Rights that provides both sound substantive arguments in support of the right to keep and bear arms, as well as true-life stories of how the Second Amendment works in practice not just in theory. This book ought to be required reading for every Member of the House and Senate; and every occupant of the White House --Former Congressman Bob Barr

Alan Gottlieb and Dave Workman have done a great job putting this book together. It is very readable and it is one of those books that is hard to put down once you begin -- much like a good novel. Giving many examples of true life encouters, they tie them well to the points they are making. Although I admit that my reading this books amounts to Gottlieb and Workman "preaching to the choir," this choir member can use all the "ammo" he can get. Purchase this book, read it, and then pass it along to others, especially those who have not so clearly thought out the ramifications outlined therein.

If "Castle Rock" and "Warren v DC" don't mean anything to you, start with Chapter 8; that's where Workman and Gottlieb review the fact that the police have no responsibility to provide you with any protection. This has been affirmed in court after court up through the Supreme Court.

With that as context, the remainder of the book gives the reader in a very engaging format a combination of scholarly works and anecdotal evidence that American can protect themselves from crime when allowed to.

The book provides evidence that right-to-carry laws have not led to the blood in the streets that many said. It shows that the lifting of the "Assault Weapons Ban" (sic) did not lead to an explosion in crime.

It also provides references to studies which show that gun control laws do not make any different in violent crime levels (a CDC study), and that, shockingly, criminals don't follow gun laws (a Department of Justice study).

Independent of which side of the gun debate you are on, this should be required reading so you can make an informed decision.

Reading this book is as though Workman and Gottlieb opened and read my own mind. Straight facts, no PETA like hyperbole, No Sarah Bradyish cries of WOLF!

There is an old joke that says "Liberal is a conservative waiting to be mugged." Personally, I didn't have to have the mugging before I realized I will never again allow myself to be disarmed. This book should be required reading in EVERY school in this country.

For Conservatives, this one is a dead on sermon to the believers. Now we need to target this book to every one of those in the "waiting to be mugged" line. We should also be demanding accountability from EVERY every public, appointed or elected official that allows such laws and criminal behaviors to continue. If a business wishes to disarm it's patrons, then the store should held accountable and responsible if one of those patrons is injured (or worse) by such policy.

It's time to remove the criminals from our society. It's time to remove the legislative criminals who allow such to occur from our society as well.

It's time, We the People have had enough of both sorts of criminal.

I picked this book up based upon a recommendation at an "open carry" web site. I am a gun owner and have always understood that the Constitution protects my individual right to own and carry a firearm. However, I thought it might be good to read a contemporary book on the issue and found these authors presentation of the current state of the debate refreshing. They weave in a fantastic review of real life stories of those who exercised their right to defend themselves and others.

The author addresses all of those trite sound bites we so frequently hear trotted out by the liberal papers and "mainstream" media outlets universally opposed to firearms. Both of the authors are consummate professionals in the firearms business and active in the defense of our second amendment right.

I must admit, the most poignant thing I learned from this book is just how often American citizens use firearms for self defense and the defense of others. Even when exercised, our right to defend ourselves is never noted in the media. So many of us have lost the collective individualism (sounds odd, but it works - each American a self reliant individual yet working together as one nation) that made this nation the most powerful in the world.

If you aren't a gun owner, after reading this book you may become one.

Good book that solidifies much of the lunacy of the gun control crowd based on the telling of the outcome of many armed and unarmed encounters. It also gives credit to the Virginia Citizen's Defense League (VCDL) for pushing the National Park concealed Carry Ban repeal (pg 159 and 164). A truth, I doubt, the NRA will ever admit.

At 198 pages it is a quick read and it can help you learn some particulars on cases that you have read about but have been distorted a bit in the retelling.

This is a good 'baseline' read for anyone wanting to get a better understanding of what some would call the inflexibility of the pro-gun organizations (National: GOA, JPFO. State VCDL, Buckeyefirearms(I think)) and why they are that way. Over all it is just more proof that Guns SAVE Lives!

America Fights Back should be required reading for every student of American history and our culture's values. We, ultimately, are responsible for our own fate and the wise use of firearms for self protection is more important now than it ever has been. Freedom loving people will never sacrifice their liberty for the sake of "safety". To rely on the government to keep us safe, after we have disarmed, is the most sure path to tyranny. This book explains how and why we must remain armed to defend ourselves and families, how it has been done most successfully and if you really want to have control of your destiny, never give up your arms. Those who wish to be in control of us all, will never be successful if we protect our most precious second amendment. This book should be in every true American's library, no matter what race, creed, or color.
