ACR News Awards winners anounced

The ACR News Awards took place virtually on Thursday 18 March celebrating the best products, businesses and people from across the air conditioning and refrigeration sectors.

The live-streamed event was  presented by comedian Ian Moore and the voice of the National Lottery, Alan Dedicoat. It was watched live by hundreds of acr professionals.

The first category of the evening was Wholesaler/Distributor of the Year. The stand out entry was Derbyshire Refrigeration. Based in Nottingham, the company has grown and developed since 1977 when refrigeration engineer Terry Hill started striking deals and buying in bulk to ensure he had enough spare parts. The business passed to daughters Vanessa and Andrea over 20 years ago and Terry sadly passed away in April 2020. However the company has continued to grow from strength to strength.

A shining example of climate awareness, Trane took the Environmental Project of the Year Award for its contribution to the Trane and Scottish Water Horizons, Stirling Council Waste Water - District Heating, a ground breaking district heating network in Scotland.

JCI scooped the Heat Pump Product of the Year with the York Amichi YMAA/YMPA Series Air cooled Scroll DC Inverter chillers and reversible heat pump with Low GWP R454B refrigerant which has high levels of efficiency and performance and small footprint across a wide capacity range.

With an eye to current critical needs, the winner of Maintenance Product of the Year was Carly RCS for Carlysafe-RTU, a ready-to-use disinfectant for hard surfaces with a wide spectrum of activities intended for disinfection in sensitive areas which require high hygiene standards.

The winner of the Chiller Product of the Year was Trane for its Trane RTAF XSE - Sintesis Prime  which offers high seasonal efficiencies.

Luke Haile from Lightfoot Defence won Trainee of the Year through his self-motivation and showing that he adapts well to different challenges and environments through his day to day work and his journey through his college and onsite training. He is known for assisting other apprentices in his class both with the theory and the practical. Using his own initiative during lockdown, he built his own electrical panel at home so that he could continue to learn.

Hotly contested this year, the Refrigeration Product of the Year Award went to TEV for its A2LsysteMatcha which is a cost effective, easy to select and install, low GWP A2L solution for small cold room applications between 1-6kW.

The Air Conditioning Project of the Year was Fujitsu for the Fujitsu Services, Warrington – replacement chilled water system for comfort cooling. This was a project with significant challenges that were overcome with flexibility of design and a wide range of configurations available from the Clint Turboline, ultimately achieving significant energy efficiency gains.

Humidity Solutions won the Air Conditioning Ancillary Product of the Year with its HomEvap which was launched in the UK in 2020 to include an optional filtration box. This product provides humidity control and or cooling to a residential property and/or commercial office usually via a heat recovery unit or similar.

The penultimate category was Air Conditioning Product of the Year which Toshiba won for its SMMS-u VRF. The company's seventh generation VRF system, the SMMS-u  includes several innovations, including a new triple chamber rotary compressor, developed in-house by Toshiba. With a refrigerant charge almost 50% less than the previous model, it also offers significant safety and environmental benefits.

Finally, the Alan Moor Award went to Peter Dinnage of Climalife – an industry figure well-known for his expertise and contributions to refrigerant development throughout his career.

Thanks must go particularly to BESA Training Academy, Bitzer, Blended, Climalife, Climate Controls & Spares, Cool Designs, Fujitsu, Pacair and REFCOM, without whom this event could not have taken place.
