Ron Johnson: Supporting Kids Isn’t “Society’s Responsibility”

Jan 26, 2022

Asked if there’s anything to be done to lower child care costs for Wisconsin families, Ron Johnson said he thinks parents should be on their own

Yesterday, Ron Johnson was asked if there’s anything he supports to lower child care costs for families. In response, Johnson said that families should be on their own from his perspective, because “[P]eople decide to have families,” and he’s “never really felt it was society’s responsibility.”

Of course, Johnson vocally opposes Democrats’ expanded child tax credit, a monthly tax cut for 36 million families, and he’s against the Build Back Better agenda to bring down child care costs for families.

And despite his rhetoric, Johnson also denies that people should have the right to decide when to start a family. He has repeatedly urged the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, opening the door for state and federal-level abortion bans.
