Stalled progress and crises are jeopardizing the health, rights and opportunities of women, children and adolescents.

More than 60 countries, including 35 out of 36 Global Financing Facility (GFF) partner countries, are now off track to meet the SDG health targets for maternal, newborn, and stillborn mortality reduction by 2030. If the global goals are met, there is potential to save at least 7.8 million lives.

But there is an opportunity to change the trajectory now: invest in stronger health systems that meet the needs of women, children, and adolescents to deliver a healthier, more prosperous future for all.

That is why the governments of Côte d’Ivoire, Germany and the Netherlands, along with the World Bank, are calling on the international community to step up now to Deliver the Future by investing in the health and rights of women, children and adolescents in the world’s poorest countries, unleashing their potential.

The case for accelerating efforts is clear.

With the US$2 billion donors have committed to date, the GFF has unlocked US$32 billion for women, children, and adolescent health in partner countries. This support, over the past eight years, has helped countries to make significant gains:

An US$800 million investment in the GFF now will help countries accelerate their reach with 250 million women, children and adolescents accessing critical services — such as safe deliveries, family planning, and nutrition — saving lives and catalyzing opportunities for all.

“Strong and equitable health systems are essential building blocks for sustainable development and economic growth. This is why Côte d’Ivoire is cohosting the GFF’s Deliver the Future campaign. The GFF approach works — and in Côte d’Ivoire it has helped deliver better health. Now, greater funding is needed to ensure that more countries can unlock opportunities for millions of women, children and adolescents to deliver a better future for all. There is no better investment.”

H.E. Patrick Achi

Prime Minister, Côte d'Ivoire

“This year Germany launched its feminist development policy. Its aim is to strengthen the rights, representation, and resources of women. The Global Financing Facility is exactly doing that by transforming investment in women, children, and adolescent health. This is why together with the governments of Cote d’Ivoire, the Netherlands and the World Bank, Germany cohosts the GFF’s Deliver the Future campaign to raise the political attention and investment needed to save lives and ensure rights and opportunities for women and children.”

H.E. Svenja Schulze

Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Germany

“We are cohosting the GFF’s Deliver the Future campaign together with Germany, Cote d’Ivoire and the World Bank because we know that prioritizing the needs and rights of women worldwide starts with health. Investing in women and their sexual and reproductive health and rights is one of the most impactful actions a country can make. It mitigates the impact of future shocks, unleashes the potential of women and girls, and puts countries on a path towards development and prosperity. As part of this effort, we are proud to triple our contribution to the GFF with a total of 90 million euros until 2025 and call on other donors to increase their investment and join the GFF.”

H.E. Liesje Schreinemacher

Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, the Netherlands

“By investing in the GFF, development partners are catalyzing billions of dollars of funding for the health of women, children and adolescents, to improve health and well-being, and empower women to be agents of change in their communities. Through its mission to support countries to Deliver the Future, the GFF supports long-lasting change by helping build more resilient and equitable health systems.”

Mamta Murthi

Vice President for Human Development, World Bank

What is the GFF?

In the face of slowing progress toward global health commitments and high maternal and child mortality in many countries in 2015, the World Bank, health leaders, United Nations, and civil society organizations cocreated the GFF — a multistakeholder partnership housed in the World Bank. This unique, country-led model of financing has been critical to accelerating health investments in the world’s poorest countries and spurring health progress and empowerment for women, children and adolescents.

The GFF supports 36 low- and middle-income countries to strengthen health systems and improve access to health for women, children, adolescents through catalytic financing and technical assistance to help countries scale up the most impactful interventions, including sexual and reproductive health and rights, and access to affordable, quality care.
