Architectural SSL Applauds Aerus Pendant Fixture

OAKLAND, N.J. –
Amerlux, an award-winning design-and-manufacture lighting company, announced today that its new Aerus lighting solution has been recognized as one of the most innovative solutions in the industry, according to Architectural SSL magazine.

The Architectural SSL Product Innovation Awards (PIA) recognizes innovative LED and solid-state luminaires and fixtures on the market, while also spotlighting the players behind the components that make up these light sources.

“We’re grateful to Architectural SSL magazine for honoring our groundbreaking lighting solution, which enhances workplace productivity by making commercial and institutional settings more personable and pleasing for those who work there,” said Bill Plageman, Amerlux’s VP of Marketing and Product Development. “Bottom line: Our product’s delivery of light with controlled comfort is invaluable in the workplace. It’s the go-to cure for poor office lighting.”

“By avoiding off-the-shelf optics, Amerlux engineered the exact distribution required to create the more ‘comfortable’ product, extracting light at high angles that traditional LEDs cannot achieve, while its (proprietary) precision (anadolic) mold design provides near 90% optical efficiency,” the magazine reported in its recent issue. “The result is a 73/27 indirect/direct distribution that maintains ahigh CRI (90+) and an efficacy up to 126 lm/W.”

Judged by a distinguished panel of 20 independent designers and lighting specialists, the program impartially honors manufacturers based on attributes, qualities, functionality and performance beyond industry standards.

Aerus—which caters to people’s needs inside the buildings and delivers an architecturally distinctive look and style compared to other indirect/direct pendants in the marketplace—received top-shelf recognition.

People-First Lighting Thwarts Productivity’s Glaring Weakness

The Mayo Clinic lists glare and bright light as the leading causes of eyestrain, which decreases productivity. In contrast, an improved lighting design can yield a 23% increase in productivity, according to the U.S. Green Building Council. With a maximum unified glare rating (UGR) of 16, the award-winning Aerus promotes employee health while exceeding the WELL Building Standard’s glare and contrast requirements.

It also offers unparalleled comfort and aesthetics, in several ways:

  • Anidolic Optics: Since the actual light source isn’t easy to see, AERUS delivers an indirect/direct (73/27) lighting distribution in an efficient and comfortable manner.
  • No Visual Power Feed: AERUS uses a low-voltage aircraft cable that supports and supplies power to the fixture.
  • Closer Ceiling Mounts: AERUS mounts 12 inches below the ceiling, compared to standard mounting for indirect/direct pendants of 18 inches to 24 inches, without creating a “hot spot.” It delivers the minimum Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES) recommendation of illuminance at 30 inches AFF with only 7 Watts/foot or it can deliver more at 10 Watts/foot.
  • Wider Spacing: While delivering even, soft illumination above and between fixtures, AERUS can be mounted up to 12 feet on center. AERUS delivers the IES-recommended foot-candle on desk.

When Amerlux presented AERUS at the biggest industry event in Philadelphia last year, editors from BUILDINGS.com called the nearly glare-free illumination the event’s top trend.
