Certain Licensees Can Earn Continuing Education Credits for Serving as Poll Workers in November Election
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most, if not all, county boards of elections have expressed significant concerns over a shortage of poll workers on election day. Additionally, many of our licensed professionals are having difficulty finding continuing education opportunities, due to the cancellation of conference and in-person education opportunities during the pandemic.
In an effort to address both of these problems, the Department of State asked the Governor’s Office for a waiver of certain requirements relating to continuing education for the following licensing boards:
- Nursing Home Administrators
- Physical Therapists
- Social Workers, Marriage & Family Therapists, Professional Counselors
- Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists
Under the waiver granted by Gov. Wolf, licensees of these boards will receive up to two hours of continuing education credit for their service as a poll worker, including attending all required training, for the Nov. 3, 2020, General Election. All licensees under these boards may be subject to a random continuing education audit. A licensee subject to a random audit would be required to provide documentation supporting a claim for these two hours of continuing education credit. Acceptable proof of having served as a poll worker includes a letter from the county elections office certifying participation as a poll worker or a copy (appropriately redacted) of a pay stub for working as a poll worker on Nov. 3, 2020.
