WFP Drones

broadening humanitarian horizons

WFP leverages decades of experience in Aviation, Logistics and Telecommunications to serve affected populations in over 80 countries each year. As part of the wider humanitarian drone community, WFP is well positioned to develop, coordinate and implement the standardized, safe and ethical use of drones for its own operations as well as those of its partners.

Explore how drone technology can help humanitarian organizations prepare for and respond to emergencies.

Responsible Technologies

WFP serves some of the world’s most vulnerable people and recognises that any data, in any form, must be collected, protected, stored and analysed with the utmost care. Therefore, WFP adheres to principles for the processing of personal data as originally developed by the United Nations Privacy Policy Group and adopted by the UN High-Level Committee on Management in 2018 to set out a basic framework for the processing of “personal data” by or on behalf of United Nations System Organizations.

Fostering humanitarian innovation

Drones are playing a progressive and influential role in humanitarian emergency preparedness and response. Prioritizing operational safety, ethics, data protection and community engagement, UN WFP encourages collaboration and helps build the capacities of first responders and government stakeholders worldwide. With their ability to heighten efficiency and precision, drones can raise humanitarian response to new levels and deliver benefits to affected communities.
