The must-hear rap song of the day

With artists releasing songs at a fast and furious pace it’s difficult for the average hip-hop head to keep track of it all—no matter how tapped in they are. That’s why we created The Ones, a daily post to highlight the song you need to hear curated by the Levels team. We sort through all the new songs—across all the platforms and subgenres—so you don’t have to. Thank us later.

Xanman - “Pink”

It’s an understatement to say that hip-hop has missed Xanman in the six months he’s been behind bars; over the last year the Maryland rapper has become the genre’s premier punchline server. Three days ago Xan returned and already he’s back with a new song and video,“Pink,” and it includes bars that address the undisclosed reasons for his imprisonment: “Hold up Xan what did you go to jail for?/Niggas snitching that I took the L for.” Though what’s important is that Xan is free and shows no signs of rust, still delivering his pop-culture referencing threats mixed in with bars that allude to his last several months: “Went to jail when I first seen my granny cry.” Since the rise of Xanman, rap has been flooded with imitators attempting to mimic his punched-in flow, but “Pink” proves that even after his hiatus nobody can wield the delivery like Xan.
