Brent Frederick

Assistant Professor of Instruction, Musical Theater and Music Director

Brent Frederick holds a co-appointment in the Schools of Theater and Music and is an Assistant
Professor of Instruction in Musical Theater and Music Director for OHIO’s musical theater
program. Professor Frederick comes to OHIO from New York City and enjoys sharing his
experience in commercial musical theater and professional entertainment in service of the next
generation of theater artists and musicians.

On Broadway, Professor Frederick conducted and played keyboards for KINKY BOOTS and
THE BAND’S VISIT. He also worked on DOCTOR ZHIVAGO, PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE
DESERT, NATASHA, PIERRE, AND THE GREAT COMET OF 1812, and PIPPIN. Professor
Frederick music directed the first national tour of PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT and
was the music supervisor for Royal Caribbean’s production of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER.

Professor Frederick is an active touring musician, appearing frequently across the country as a
bandleader for The Doo Wop Project, featuring original cast members of JERSEY BOYS and
MOTOWN. He has appeared with The Doo Wop Project as a piano soloist with orchestras
including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, and the Kansas
City Symphony. Professor Frederick is a substitute concert pianist for Tony Award winner Kelli
O’Hara and has accompanied Tony Award winner Faith Prince in concert at Ohio University.

Other NYC credits include Jacob Yandura and Rebekah Greer Melocik’s WRINGER, STAND
TALL, MOONSHINE & MISTLETOE, Al Carmine’s CHRISTMAS RAPPINGS, and Michael
Mott’s RIDING OUT THE STORM. Select regional credits include THE PRODUCERS
(Papermill Playhouse), CLOSER THAN EVER (Riverside Theatre), SPAMALOT (Ogunquit
Playhouse), and ALWAYS...PATSY CLINE. Selected keyboard programming credits include
Broadway’s ALADDIN, NEWSIES, CINDERELLA, and FINDING NEVERLAND. Professor
Frederick’s arrangements and orchestrations have been performed by artists including Jeremy
Jordan and Faith Prince and have been heard at venues including the 92nd Street Y, 54 Below,
by symphony orchestras around the country, and around the world on cruise ships. He worked as
an audition accompanist for many NYC casting agencies and Broadway shows, including
HAMILTON and THE BOOK OF MORMON. Professor Frederick co-produced, arranged, and
played keyboards for Jacqueline Petroccia’s debut album, “Champagne & Moonshine” and
serves as music director/arranger on her one woman show.

At OHIO, Professor Frederick music directed the first post-Broadway English language
production of Dave Malloy’s NATASHA, PIERRE, AND THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 for
Tantrum Theater. His other credits for Tantrum Theater include a film adaptation of SPRING
AWAKENING and CARRIE.

Professor Frederick is originally from Reading, PA and holds a Bachelor of Music in music
education from Shenandoah Conservatory and a Master of Music in music education from Ohio
University. He is a proud member of Local 802 of the American Federation of Musicians.
