Four Seasons

A seasonal celebration of all things strings

What's Interesting About This Program

  • “Spellbinding” (New York Times) violinist Alexi Kenney leads a Baroque-style, conductor-less performance of Vivaldi’s iconic Four Seasons plus George Walker’s hauntingly beautiful, best known, and most-performed work Lyric for Strings.
  • Music Director Donato Cabrera returns to center stage after intermission to conduct Jessie Montgomery’s Starburst and Schubert’s Death and the Maiden, arranged by Mahler, who blew up Schubert’s quartet piece for string orchestra in this arrangement. The piece explores the range of human emotions, from dark and heavy to positive and optimistic.

Patrons must be fully vaccinated and masks are required. For details, please visit www.californiasymphony.org/COVIDsafety.  Thank you for your cooperation!
