About Ashley

Ashley Nunes was the policy director for R Street’s Competition Policy. His work explored how innovation affects markets with a focus on how automatization impacts economic well-being.

Ashley previously led transportation policy assessment efforts at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where his work examined the fiscal proposition of advanced technology concepts. Other research investigations led by Ashley include assessing the efficacy of mandatory retirement ages, quantifying the impact of innovation on economic mobility and identifying cost efficient policy levers that incentivize behavioral changes.

Ashley’s work has been supported by the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Transportation and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. His findings have been covered by The Economist, The Guardian and the Financial Times, and he has written for The Atlantic, The Washington Post and USA Today, among others. In addition to his work at R Street, Ashley teaches behavioral economics at Harvard College and leads research projects in the Labor and Worklife program at Harvard Law School.

He received his PhD in engineering psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.
