Number 22 Best Online Master's In Education U.S. News & World Report 2022

Purdue University’s online master’s degree programs in the College of Education jumped 20 spots from a year ago in the newest U.S. News & World Report’s rankings of Best Online Programs.

The rankings, released Tuesday (Jan. 25), show Purdue moving from 42 in the 2021 rankings to 22 in the 2022 rankings, and highlights the success of Education’s online master’s programs.

Out of 343 listed universities, this places Purdue in the top 6% of online master’s programs in the nation.

Wayne E. Wright, associate dean for research, graduate programs, and faculty development in the College of Education, says that these national rankings are grounded in a comprehensive set of quality indicators for online programs and, thus, provide an important avenue to ensure the College of Education is offering outstanding programs for its students.

“Such a high jump in rankings is unusual but is a testament to the expertise and hard work of our outstanding faculty and professional staff to consistently update current programs and develop new programs that are grounded in research on the best practices in online learning.”

Four College of Education online master’s programs also received top national specialty ranks:

  • #8 Educational/Instruction Media Design
  • #14 Curriculum & Instruction
  • #14 Special Education programs
  • #20 Educational Administration and Supervision

Robin Cunningham, senior manager of Purdue Online in the College of Education, says the College of Education leadership team allows faculty to take an innovative approach in the classroom. Faculty have been actively engaged in building quality programs that align with the Purdue University brand.

“I am excited about moving up in the rankings by such a significant number because of the quality of the College of Education programs and the dedication from faculty and staff.”

In addition, Cunningham says the 2022 rankings highlight the innovative education taking place in the online programs. “The collaboration between the departments in the College of Education and Purdue Online has resulted in better service to the online students. Our goal is to have online students identify as College of Education students and not differentiate between residential and online. In the end, they are all Purdue students.”

U.S. News & World Report is a recognized leader in ranking colleges, programs, and graduate schools. Each year, Purdue’s College of Education strives to continually improve its programs and relies on the rankings to help promote and serve as a recruiting tool for prospective students seeking a quality online educational experience.
