Unless you are a horse don’t take ivermectin

It should not have to be said. You are not a horse, you are not a cow. That is the message from the Food and Drug Administration to those considering taking the drug ivermectin in order to prevent getting Covid. Apparently an increasing number of people in some southern states are seeking treatment after taking the drug ivermectin, which is designed as a dewormer for livestock like horses and cows. There also have been cases in Wisconsin, perhaps no surprise given U.S. Senator Ron Johnson’s efforts to promote the treatment. Johnson has spent several months talking up the anti-parasitic drug and its benefits in combating Covid. But there is no truth to it. And the misinformation got the Senator banned from YouTube. Ivermectin does not prevent or treat Covid, and threatens to make people sick. It can be used for certain treatments in humans, things like lice and rosacea, but in those cases it is used topically and not ingested. Instead, people are ingesting it, sometimes in quantities designed for horses. Yet Johnson, who contracted Covid, but still hasn’t gotten vaccinated, continues to push misinformation that is literally making people sick.
