Thank you to everyone who supported Dessoff by coming to our concerts and making donations to Dessoff during this lead-off year celebrating our 100th Anniversary. Three award-worthy concerts were successful due to your support and attendance: Mendelssohn’s Elijah in November at Abyssinian Baptist Church was sensational with a large audience and spectacular soloists; Valerie Capers Sojourner and James Whitbourn’s Annelies with a libretto from Anne Frank’s “The Diary of a Young Girl”. These two contemporary oratorios about famous women, Sojourner Truth and Anne Frank, were magical. While very different from one another, both librettos were emotionally charged and sung by two beautiful singers. You loved hearing them and we loved performing them.

Next season is Dessoff’s 100th season and leads off with Brahms Requiem Reunion concert on November 2, 2024. We’re inviting all former Dessoff singers, conductors, managers and other associates to celebrate our centenary, and join us on stage. We’ll be at The Town Hall — significant because we’ve performed there over 50 times since 1924.

While we’re still finalizing details for the rest of the season, we will dig into the Dessoff Archives and perform music from the early years, including premieres which we introduced to NY audiences. Plus we’re excited to announce that we have commissioned a new work from Tania León in honor of our 100th anniversary.

It will be an exciting year so stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
