PTV Drive-In: Quantifying System Level Impact of CAVs
V2X technologies can decrease the energy consumption of ego vehicles by up to 20%, according to studies. A U.S Government-funded project – being conducted by Southwest Research Institute, Continental, and Hyundai – aims to quantify the impact of multiple ego vehicles on corridor-wide energy consumption. Using PTV Vissim simulation tool, the researchers are testing under various traffic conditions, vehicle electrification levels, V2V technology penetrations, and the number of ego vehicles. The study indicated that for a traffic mix based on the new vehicles sales in 2025, a 15% corridor-level energy consumption reduction can be achieved. This free webinar presentation will detail the development and validation of the traffic simulation framework, design of experiments conducted, challenges faced, and results under various test conditions.
