Chaney-Hale Hall of Science opens for Fall 2020 semester

Construction of the new four-story Chaney-Hale Hall of Science is complete for the start of the Fall 2020 semester. The new facility, encompassing 111,000 gross square feet, has been under construction since June 2018, and occupants moved into the building last month.

“We are excited that this state-of-the-art facility is open on time to directly support Purdue’s persistent pursuit of transformative education,” said Jay Wasson, associate vice president in Physical Facilities. ”Through many complex decisions on the best use of efficient design components, this “lab of the future” hosts flexible spaces that can be more easily adapted to changes in teaching and learning methods that are yet to come.”

The facility, located adjacent to Elliott Hall of Music, will support chemistry and biology disciplines for first- and second-year undergraduates. Students will have access to 33 laboratories and support space. Saladworks at the Wing Chan Café is located on the first floor and is expected to be open to the public by the end of the month.

“The Chaney-Hale Hall of Science represents Purdue’s commitment to be a leader in STEM education, says Lucy Flesch, associate dean of academic affairs in the College of Science. “Undergraduate students across all colleges – not just science majors – now have the best possible facilities and technology for an integrated, multidisciplinary science learning experience.”

In observation of Protect Purdue protocols that limit public gatherings this fall, the building dedication will tentatively take place in the spring of 2021.
