CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Candidates in Ohio’s U.S. Senate Republican primary are testing how much it takes to secure a seat via their personal wealth.

Five of the seven Republican candidates seeking retiring GOP Sen. Rob Portman’s post have garnered more than 50% of their campaign cash from their personal coffers. Only one candidate – former Treasurer Josh Mandel – hasn’t dipped into his piggy bank. Overall, around 72% of the money raised by Republican candidates came from the candidates, compared to around 28% from outside donors.
