A gang of malicious attackers appears to have used the Windows NetWalker ransomware to stage a raid on the infrastructure of Forsee Power, a company that designs and manufactures smart lithium-ion battery systems for electro-mobility markets.

The company says it is able to mitigate climate change with sustainable, zero-emission electromobility.

It describes itself as a major player in its field in Europe, Asia and North America, adding, "we design, assemble and supply energy management systems based on the most robust cells available on the market as well as provide installation, commissioning and on-site or remote maintenance".

Forsee has offices in North America and The Netherlands, a production unit in Poland and a sales office and R&D centre in France.

As per usual practice when a victim does not respond to a ransom note that is generated after encryption of data on-site, the attackers have released a list of files which they say they have pilfered from Forsee.

NetWalker is not very commonly used by cyber criminals; in the recent past, it has been utilised to attack the University of California in San Francisco, Australian customer experience firm Stellar and Trinity Metro, a regional transportation authority of the state of Texas.

iTWire has contacted the company for comment.
