The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) crews maintain 17,824 lane miles of the state’s highways and toll roads. If you have a pothole or your road needs plowing from a recent snow storm, we remind Marylanders that there are three types of state-maintained roads in Maryland:
If you don’t see one of these signs on your road, you probably do NOT live on a state-maintained road.
See below a list of the three types of state-maintained roads. If your road is not on one of these three lists, please contact your county or municipality directly to get your road plowed, a pothole fixed or another road issued addressed. There is a full list below of the website and contact phone number for each county in Maryland.

Baltimore City - There are no MDOT State Highway Administration maintained roads in Baltimore City. Local roads, interstates and numbered routes in the City are maintained and plowed by Baltimore City. The exception is toll roads I-95, I-395 and I-895 that are maintained by the Maryland Transportation Authority.
