Tatjana Schneider
Tatjana Schneider is Professor for History and Theory of Architecture and the City (GTAS) at the Technical University Braunschweig, Germany. In the face of epochal urban transformations and increasing inequalities, her work is dedicated to the research of the socio-spatial, economic and political parameters within and through which architectures and cities are made. When architecture is often concerned with the object beautiful only, she is interested in unraveling, disentangling and explicating the interdependencies between architecture and other forces by developing ways and means that make such forces visible and negotiable. Her work aims to make tangible what often remains hidden, is concealed or otherwise obscured in order to develop tools and instruments that can critique and ultimately change hegemonial, profit-driven systems of production. She is (co)author and (co)editor of books such as Flexible Housing (2007), Agency. Working With Uncertain Architectures (2009), A Right to Build (2011), Spatial Agency. Other Ways of Doing Architecture (2011, 2016) and Housing Futures. Emerging Models and Directions (forthcoming). Beyond her academic work, she was co-founder of the architectural worker cooperative Glasgow Letters on Architecture and Space and the research group Agency.
