Unveiling the Universe: Art and Science Summit - 70 years of discoveries at CERN

As part of the celebrations for CERN’s 70th anniversary, the Unveiling the Universe event will be a unique meeting of art and science, looking back at CERN’s 70 years of scientific discoveries and looking ahead to the mysteries of the Universe still to be understood.

The day will begin with the inaugural CERN Art and Science Summit. Artists and physicists will delve into the challenges and opportunities of engagement across disciplines in three moderated conversations.

Participants will then be invited to visit Exploring the Unknown, the inaugural art exhibition at CERN Science Gateway.  

In the evening, renowned scientists, including Nobel Laureate David Gross, will engage in discussions about 70 Years of Discoveries at CERN, a fascinating journey through the evolution of particle physics. 

The event will conclude with Enigma, a collaborative work by composer Anna Þorvaldsdóttir and artist Sigurður Guðjónsson, which will be performed live by the Ensemble Phoenix Basel string quartet.

Dans le cadre du 70e anniversaire du CERN, l’événement exceptionnel « Dévoiler l’Univers » (« Unveiling the Universe »), qui mêlera science, art et culture, reviendra sur 70 ans de découvertes scientifiques et mettra en relief les nombreux mystères encore irrésolus de l’Univers.

La journée commencera par le premier Sommet art et science du CERN : au cours de trois débats animés par un modérateur, des artistes et des scientifiques évoqueront les défis et les opportunités d’une collaboration interdisciplinaire.

Les participants seront ensuite invités à visiter « Explorer l’inconnu », la toute première exposition artistique du Portail de la science du CERN.

La soirée sera consacrée à des discussions entre des scientifiques émérites, dont David Gross, lauréat du prix Nobel, qui reviendront sur 70 ans de découvertes au CERN, une aventure captivante à travers l’évolution de la physique des particules.

Enfin, l’événement se conclura par « Enigma », un spectacle créé en collaboration par la compositrice Anna Þorvaldsdóttir et l’artiste Sigurður Guðjónsson, qui sera joué par un quatuor à cordes, l’Ensemble Phoenix Basel.
