About Inverlochy Castle Hotel

This Inverlochy hotel is an enchanting 19th-century baronial mansion in Fort William, situated at the foot of Ben Nevis. Situated in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, the hotel’s dramatic surroundings are unlike any other. Overlooking Britain’s highest mountain, the hotel offers majestic views of its own private loch and surrounding glens. As you approach the hotel, you’ll be greeted by one of the great wonders of Scotland, the famous Glencoe and Great Glen, giving you a sense of the grandeur that lies ahead.

Our history

Queen Victoria's Escape

Originally built in 1863, this magnificent Inverlochy hotel was owned by William Scarlett, 3rd Baron Abinger; a British peer and soldier who served during the Crimean War and succeeded his father as Baron Abinger in 1861. The Scarlett family crest can still be seen on the spectacular ceiling of the hotel’s Great Hall dining room. Queen Victoria visited the Scarlett family at Inverlochy Castle in 1873, using the Castle as an escape when running from the British Empire. Inverlochy’s beauty is believed to have inspired Queen Victoria, as she spent her week there sketching and painting the surrounding landscape. When describing Inverlochy in her diary almost 150 years ago, she wrote ‘I never saw a lovelier or more romantic spot’, which still holds true today.

Dining

‘Seasgair’ by Michel Roux Jr. ‘Seasgair’ is Gaelic for warm, cosy and comfortable – exactly how you will feel. The dining experience at the castle has been transformed into something truly unique, that’s sure to surprise and delight. Overseen by two Michelin star chef Michel Roux Jr and presented by our wonderful head chef Coalin Finn, to dine at Seagair is to be transported back to the true essence of Inverlochy Castle, to experience it how guests would have when the castle was a private home. Dinner will commence at 7pm, where a glass of Champagne or a custom designed cocktail will be waiting on arrival. The evening begins in the Great Hall, where the chefs will prepare and present a carefully chosen variety of canapes, before you make your way to the warm and comfortable dining rooms to enjoy five dishes artfully devised by chef Coalin. The small, local producers that neighbour us will feature prominently across the menu; some of which are not available anywhere else!
