Aubree Gordon, PhD, MPH

Dr. Gordon's research focuses on the dynamics of influenza transmission, natural history, susceptibility to influenza, and the development of immunity. She has established a number of large field studies of influenza and/or SARS-CoV-2 including a prospective pediatric cohort study in Nicaragua (2011-ongoing), a family cohort study in Nicaragua (2017-ongoing), and an adult cohort study in Michigan (2020-ongoing). Her work focuses on both the transmission of respiratory viruses and the development of immunity. In addition, Dr. Gordon works on dengue virus, chikungunya virus and Zika virus immunity and transmission. Dr. Gordon's work aims to answer fundamental questions that are of the utmost priority for the understanding of influenza and SARS-CoV-2 and the development of next-generation vaccines.

Research Projects:
Dr. Gordon's ongoing studies include a household cohort study in Managua, Nicaragua that began in May of 2017 and was recently extended into 2028. The study consists of a family cohort with an embedded transmission study to investigate both influenza and SARS-CoV-2.

The Nicaraguan Pediatric Influenza Cohort Study, which began in January 2011, is a community-based prospective study of ~1,700 children from birth through 14 years of age in. Design features of this study will allow it to provide information about repeat natural influenza infections, the development of immunity, and immune imprinting.

In collaboration with Michigan Medicine, Dr. Gordon co-leads the Immunity-associated with SARS-CoV-2 (IASO) Cohort Study, a prospective cohort study of ~3500 adults in Michigan that began in October 2020. IASO is generating important data on SARS-CoV-2 and has supplied critical serum samples to the SARS-CoV-2 Variant Evolution (SAVE) working group.

Dr. Gordon also collaborates on a number of arboviral studies including studies in Managua, Nicaragua, Sri Lanka, and Ecuador.
