MILWAUKEE – June 28, 2023 – Johnson Controls, the global leader for smart, healthy and sustainable buildings, today announced a $150,000 grant from the Johnson Controls Foundation and in-kind donations from Johnson Controls valued at approximately $400,000 in support of Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity. The in-kind donation includes HVAC equipment, fire detection and suppression devices, smart thermostats, security systems and more, for more than 90 new homes being built for local families.

“This donation is part of our 140-year commitment to supporting healthier, smarter and more sustainable spaces in the metro Milwaukee community,” said George Oliver, chairman and CEO of Johnson Controls. “Johnson Controls has worked with Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity for more than 10 years and we are proud to support their efforts to build more than 90 new homes for Milwaukee families.”

“Milwaukee, like many communities around the country, is suffering from a lack of affordable housing. Working with organizations like Johnson Controls allows us to break down the barriers to homeownership for first-time buyers,” said Brian Sonderman, executive director at Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity. “This generous support from Johnson Controls is crucial to making these homes affordable for Milwaukee families.”

The donation was announced earlier today while 30 Johnson Controls employees, including Oliver and Lei Schlitz, president of Global Products, volunteered their time on site at a Habitat for Humanity Milwaukee location.

Johnson Controls seeks to promote the well-being and strength of the communities it calls home, including Milwaukee, through dedicated philanthropy and global employee volunteer programs. Johnson Controls employees are committed to giving back to the community by donating their time, skills and energy. About Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity

Milwaukee is in the midst of an affordable housing crisis where one in three renters are spending half or more of their income on housing. At the same time, some of the city's oldest housing stock is located in areas with the highest concentrations of households earning less than $25k per year. Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity helps families earning below the median income invest in and preserve homeownership. By helping renters become first-time homebuyers and making critical home repair affordable for existing homeowners, we empower our community. Since our founding in 1984, Milwaukee Habitat has helped nearly 1500 local families build or repair a place to call home. Learn more at milwaukeehabitat.org.
