Securing Our Democracy Series: A Conversation with Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY)

Democracy, and all that it entails, has been a cornerstone of what it means to be an American for centuries. Since the earliest days of this country, people have fought to ensure that this ideal is accessible to everyone who lives here, not just the privileged few.  In recent years we have seen renewed attacks on voting rights and unprecedented new efforts to sabotage elections. We have the policy tools at our disposal to secure our democracy and build the kind of multi-racial democracy embedded in the initial promise of this country but Congress must act now and pass legislation sitting in the Senate. Over the coming weeks, the Center for American Progress Action Fund (CAP Action) will hold a series of events highlighting what is at stake and the need for immediate congressional action.

On January 11, please join the Center for American Progress Action Fund for a conversation between Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and CAP Action CEO Patrick Gaspard, on the urgency of this moment and the stakes for our democracy. At a moment when many state legislatures are advancing partisan efforts to restrict the freedom to vote, the Senate, under Sen. Schumer’s leadership, remains a critical bulwark in securing our democracy.
