In addition to being one of the leading musical entertainers and piano virtuosos of recent decades, Michael Feinstein is recognized as an educator, archivist, interpreter, and ambassador of the Great American Songbook. His career as a top-selling and critically acclaimed recording artist has included appearances on Broadway and many of the world’s greatest stages. He has earned five Grammy nominations, a special Tony Award for Excellence in Theatre, two Emmy nominations for his television specials, and acclaim for his NPR series. In 2023, he debuted Feinstein’s at the Taper in Los Angeles.

In 2024—the same year as the centennial of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue—Feinstein released Gershwin Rhapsody, a collaboration with acclaimed classical pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet. The album features duos, solos, and vocals by Feinstein from the Gershwin catalogue and the world-premiere recordings of four Gershwin piano works. In 2022, Feinstein released Gershwin Country, an album of standards in duet with some of the biggest names in country music from Dolly Parton to Brad Paisley. The same year, he made his debut at New York’s legendary Café Carlyle.

In 2007, Feinstein founded the Great American Songbook Foundation to preserve and elevate America’s rich musical legacy, offering programs for the public and research opportunities for scholars, historians, and performers; and providing educational experiences for students, including the annual high school Songbook Academy. For more than a decade, he served as a founding member on the Library of Congress’ National Recording Preservation Board.

Feinstein was named principal pops conductor of the Pasadena Symphony in 2012 and made his conducting debut the following year. He serves as artistic director of the Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel, Indiana, which is home to diverse programming and a museum for his rare memorabilia and manuscripts. Since 1999, he has served as artistic director for Carnegie Hall’s Standard Time with Michael Feinstein. In 2010, he became director of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Jazz & Popular Song series.
