Anything Goes: The Role of Music in Society

Wednesday, February 28, 2024 5:30 PM Resnick Education Wing
Dancing bar in Baden-Baden by Max Beckmann
What do the arts tell, or predict, of the political and social conditions and choices of their time? In this engaging discussion, leading observers and cultural historians compare current conditions with those accompanying the new music and art styles of the “anything-goes” society of the 1920s that, by 1933, led to the demise of democracy and the rise of authoritarianism. Is it alarmist or realistic to see our communities as being at risk today of repeating Weimar’s past?
