MAKING IT EASIER TO VOTE AND HARDER TO CHEAT

PAVING THE PATH FORWARD FOR FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS

In the aftermath of the 2020 election, during which state officials administering elections faced unprecedented challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the trust of Americans in their electoral process plummeted. Restoring confidence in our elections must become a national priority – but it’s in the states where action needs to be taken, as the Constitution delegates the important task of administering our elections to the states.

THE RSLC’S COMMISSION ON ELECTION INTEGRITY

Home to the national caucuses of Republican state legislators and secretaries of state, the RSLC has convened leading policymakers to identify best practices from all the states that have proven their practicality and success, embodying one common principle: they make it easier to vote and harder to cheat. The RSLC’s Commission on Election Integrity is co-chaired by Michigan state Senator Ruth Johnson and Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett.

REPUBLICANS MUST FIGHT BACK NOW AGAINST NATIONAL DEMOCRATS’ POWER GRAB TO FEDERALIZE STATE ELECTION LAWS

Democrats in 2020 used the pandemic to alter election laws in their favor — now they want to make those changes permanent. If Republicans fail to meet this moment with serious proposals to make it easier to vote and harder to cheat, Democrats will dominate elections for years to come.

“CAMPAIGNS FOR SECRETARY OF STATE ARE BECOMING THE NEXT MAJOR ARENA OF NATIONWIDE POLITICAL COMBAT. SITTING SECRETARIES AND POLITICAL GROUPS ARE PREPARING FOR A FLOOD OF CANDIDATES, MONEY AND ATTENTION INTO CAMPAIGNS FOR THE NEWLY PROMINENT POSITIONS IN 2022.” —politico, february 23, 2021

“States are truly the laboratories of democracy, and we can all learn from what others do well as we try to provide assistance to the leaders across the country that are spearheading the effort to reform our elections. I am confident that our commission will be able to provide substantive support to the lawmakers around the nation who need it, and restore our people’s trust in our elections.”

— Ruth Johnson, Michigan State Senator

“Most people want to see our elections reformed, but the federal power grab that congressional Democrats are proposing should be a nonstarter. The RSLC’s Commission on Election Integrity provides an alternative, a road map for state-centered reforms that make it easier to vote and harder to cheat.”

— Tre Hargett, Secretary of State of Tennessee
