Un-Tied Methodism podcast

Why do Methodists use Welch's grape juice for communion? What does a famous mountain in Zimbabwe have to do with The UMC's formation in that African nation? What U.S. church predates the famous Christmas Conference in 1784 that launched the American Methodists? Explore these questions and more as we examine the roots of The United Methodist Church (and its predecessor denominations) to understand why The UMC is the way that it is...and where it might be going.

Dr. Ashley Boggan D., general secretary for the General Commission on Archives and History, hosts the "Un-Tied Methodism" podcast. Join us to unravel our past to make sense of today.

Reimagining unity: Regionalization and The UMC with The Rev. Dr. Betty Kazadi Musau, Dr. David Scott and the Rev. Dr. Israel Alvaran

In the next installment of our special General Conference series of “Un-Tied Methodism” episodes, we discuss regionalization. Few may realize that as soon as John Wesley’s Methodist movement expanded out of the U.K. to Ireland, Scotland, the Caribbean and North America, the conversation about regionalization began. More than 270 years later, a petition outlining an official regionalization plan for The UMC is headed to General Conference. Dr. Ashley Boggan D. welcomes guests the Rev. Dr. Betty Kazadi Musau, Dr. David Scott and the Rev. Dr. Israel Alvaran to discuss this important topic and why regionalization offers opportunities to rethink the church and consider possibilities for both The UMC and for the ecumenical church worldwide.
