Kenneth Rauscher, of Grand Ledge, Mich., will receive the 2021 MSU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) Honorary Alumni Award at the March 12 ANR Awards Program.

The CANR Honorary Alumni Award honors those who have contributed to the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources on a state, national or international level.

Rauscher has served as the president of the Lansing Area Agricultural and Natural Resources Club. As a part of the club, he works to help fundraise for scholarships that are awarded to CANR students. Since 2018, he has worked as an enumerator for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Previously, he served as the director of the Michigan Department of Agriculture (MDA) Pesticide and Plant Pest Management from 1995 to 2011. While with the MDA, he worked closely with the MSU Plant and Soil Science department to better manage exotic pests, implement effective pesticide programs and deliver quality standards for consumers and agricultural producers.

He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin in forestry, and his master’s degree in municipal forestry and forest pathology. He grew up on a small dairy farm in Wisconsin, which inspired his passion for agriculture.

He has served on the board of directors for USDA’s Clean Plant Network, The Nature Conservancy’s Continental Dialogue on Management of Forest Invasive, the Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association, and currently serves as the hospitality minister at St. Michael’s Church in Grand Ledge, Mich.
