The City of Brevard has approved short-term rentals in some residential neighborhoods and downtown.

According to state law, Brevard can't regulate permits, but officials say they will monitor standards related to occupancy and parking.

They hope the approval of short-term rentals will bring more tourism to the area.

"Brevard doesn't have a lot of hotel rooms. We do have a lot of people that come to visit, and what we hear anecdotally is people are coming to Brevard to go to Pisgah National Forest and they are going back to Hendersonville and Asheville to stay the night," Daniel cobb, the planning director for the City of Brevard, said. "So, they view this as another form of lodging that needs to be monitored just a little bit."

The city said short-term rentals are still prohibited in the highway ward and on the Brevard College campus.
