Event Description

Cheers, Artemisia Gentileschi!

Join staff of the National Museum of Women in the Arts for a virtual happy hour to celebrate the life and work of Artemisia Gentileschi! We will make a specialty cocktail in her honor, share artworks and stories, and discuss all things Artemisia.

Registration is required. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about how to join.

Special Guest:

Andra ‘AJ’ Johnson will be teaching us how to make a specially created cocktail inspired by Artemisia Gentileschi. Johnson has been part of the DMV restaurant scene for years and currently serves as the Bar Director for the Serenata/Zumo cocktail bar in La Cosecha. She is a co-founder of DMV Black Restaurant Week and her forthcoming book, White Plates, Black Faces, tells the stories of people of color in the restaurant industry.

Featured Cocktail: If It Ain’t Baroque, Don’t Fix It

Prepare for the event by making sure you’re ready to create the specialty cocktail inspired by Artemisia Gentileschi.

Ingredients for Cocktail:

  • 1 oz Malfy Gin con Arancia
  • 0.75 oz Averna Amaro
  • 1 oz chilled honey-cinnamon milk
  • grated nutmeg
  • 1 orange peel for garnish

Ingredients for Mocktail:

  • 2 oz cold brew or chilled espresso
  • 1 oz chilled honey-cinnamon milk
  • grated nutmeg
  • 1 orange peel for garnish

Preferred Glassware: rocks glass

Additional Tools: bar spoon, ice, jigger, peeler for garnish, paring knife, microplane to grate nutmeg (unless nutmeg is already ground)

To make honey-cinnamon milk:

  • 1 cup milk, cream, or dairy substitute
  • 1.5 teaspoons honey
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • pinch of ground allspice
  • pinch ground nutmeg

In a small saucepan, combine the milk, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, and allspice. Cook and stir over medium heat until heated through, then whisk in honey. Strain off spices and cinnamon with a fine strainer. Put in a non-reactive cooler and let chill all the way through before use.
